After 13 years, IAF to hold air show over Dal Lake in Srinagar today

Srinagar, Sep 25: As part of the ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ celebrations in Kashmir, the Indian Air Force (IAF) will hold Air show after a gap of 13 years over the Dal Lake in Srinagar, officials said.
A senior official told Rising Kashmir that IAF conducted the rehearsal for the Air Show along Dal Lake on Sunday and all preparations have been finalized for the mega event.

“The air show will be held on Sunday where IAF’s skydiving team Akash Ganga will be in action. Besides, Suryakiran Aerobatic Display Team will also be performing in the valley after a gap of 13 years,” he said.

He further revealed that besides, Display team, Paramotor Flying would also be part of the showcase on Sunday.

The officials said that the event will be flagged off by Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, at Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in presence of B R Krishna Western Air Command Officer Commanding-in-Chief (AOC-in-C) and other dignitaries.

According to the official, more than 3000 students from various colleges, schools, and 700 teachers from across Kashmir are expected to witness impressive maneuvers performed by the IAF aircraft on Sunday.

“The main aim of the exercise under the theme ‘Give Wings to Your Dream’ is to motivate the youth of the valley to join IAF and to promote tourism in the region,” the official said.

To motivate youth towards IAF, stalls will be set up at multiple locations inside SKICC to inform students about the IAF’s achievements, employment opportunities, recruitment rules, and eligibility criteria, the official said.

The official said as part of the event, Russian built Sukhoi Su-30 MKI fighter jets, MiG 21 Bisons and US-made Boeing CH-47 Chinook heavy-lift helicopters are part of the airshow.

Apart from this the major attractions of the program will be Paramotor, Powered hang-glider, Akash Ganga Sky diving team.

The display will include flypast by various aircrafts of the IAF. The spectators would also witness para-motor flying and IAF’s sky diving team ‘Akash Ganga’ in action. Besides, the symphony orchestra of the IAF would be adding glitter to the event.
During the demonstration, students will also be familiarised with the new technological advancements achieved and incorporated by the IAF while flying aircraft in the sky over the world-famous Dal Lake, the officials said.

“Ambassadors of IAF’, Suryakiran Aerobatic Display Team, will be performing in the valley after a gap of 13 years,” he said.
The last show by IAF was performed in Srinagar in the year 2008. From 2010-2020 no airshow was hosted following the unfavorable conditions in the Valley.
Ahead of the Air Show, Traffic Police Srinagar has also informed the people about traffic to remain off from the Boulevard road and other routes have been kept for the plying of vehicles.

Rehearsal for show held

A Preliminary show of a prestigious Air force show was held here Saturday at SKICC Srinagar giving a glimpse of the grand spectacle to unfold on Sunday, 26 September 2021.

During the rehearsal, the pilots orchestrated their ability to skillfully navigate, coordinate and synchronise — aerobatics with oodles of flair and style while hovering over the country’s famous Dal Lake.

The main show scheduled to be held tomorrow is a part of the ongoing celebrations commemorating ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and has been organised to inculcate the spirit of nationalism among the Kashmir youth.

The theme of the show is ‘Give Wings to Your Dream’, to raise awareness among youth about the job opportunities in the Indian Air Force.
Meanwhile, adequate arrangements including security have been put in place by the divisional Administration for smooth conduct of the Air Show.

The Air Show would have an air display by Surya Kiran Aerobatics Team, Paramotor and powered hang-glider display, Flypast by Mig-21 Bison, Aerobatics by Su-30 Aircraft.
