Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) sets up task force to ensure students’ mental well-being, details inside

Teachers having relevant qualifications(Psychology) and experience were nominated by the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) as district and zonal counselling coordinators on Saturday. This was done in order to make sustainable and quality interventions to ensure mental health, child protection and career development of students.

A total of 20 teaching staff who possess the required qualifications have been nominated as district counselling coordinators and district counselors, while 98 staff members have been nominated as zonal counselling coordinators who will be responsible for coordinating counseling activities in the field apart from attending their routine school duties.

The official further informed that these staff will implement the guidelines for ‘Manodarpan’. Manodarpan is a central government initiative to ensure the mental well-being of students.

DSEJ COUNSELLING CALENDAR TO IMPLEMENTED

The official went on to inform that the concerned staff would also supervise the execution of the counseling activity calendar issued by DSEJ .
The calendar covers varied subjects like psychological first aid, mental health, drug abuse, child protection, career counselling, psychosocial issues, he informed further.

IMPACT OF COVID-19 ON STUDENTS’ MENTAL HEALTH

The official further said that the Covid-19 epidemic had a significant impact on people’s behavioural and mental health requirements, particularly among school kids, while adding that the new education strategy also prioritises guidance and counselling for pupils.

Director of School Education Jammu Ravi Shankar Sharma expressed optimism that these counsellors would better handle stakeholders’ mental health concerns, while stating that they would receive more training to improve their counselling abilities.
