Security beefed up, agencies on toes in Valley

Srinagar: Following the killing of two more migrant workers in Kulgam on Sunday evening, security has been beefed up in entire Kashmir region including Srinagar and adjacent areas and strict vigil is being kept across major hotspots.
A senior police official told Rising Kashmir that surveillance and close vigil is being maintained in order to thwart such attacks in the future, he said.
“On Monday, additional deployment of forces of Police and paramilitary forces were deployed at vital spots in Srinagar and other parts of the valley,” he said.

In Srinagar, Police, and paramilitary forces were conducting searches of vehicles, frisking at several places.

The official said random frisking of cars and motorcycles is being carried out in various parts of the city to thwart any subversive plans of the militants.

“The prevailing security setup will continue to operate in Srinagar and other parts in coming days until we get any direction from the high command,” the police officer said.

The move comes after Valley witnessed two back-to-back militant attacks in which four non-local laborers were killed in two separate incidents.
On Monday, two non-local laborers were killed and another was wounded after militants opened indiscriminate fire inside a rented accommodation of non-locals here in the Wanpoh area of Kulgam district.

“Both police and paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has intensified patrolling, vehicle checking, and frisking at various flashpoints including Lal Chowk, Karanagar, MA Road in Srinagar and other parts of the Valley,” the police officer said.

A police officer said they are working on leads and the remaining attackers will either be arrested or neutralized soon.

Responding to a question, why Srinagar is witnessing a spurt in militant attacks, he said, “There are still three to four terrorists and two dozen OGWs active in City. We are working on all leads to maintain peace in Kashmir, the official said.

“Loopholes are being plugged in to avoid such incidents in the future. We have taken review meetings following the attacks,” he said.

In north and south Kashmir parts, security forces have been deployed the police checkpoints across including on the Srinagar-Muzaffarabad highway following the directions from the high command.
