SKUAST-Kashmir ranked 6th best agricultural university in India
Srinagar, Dec 3: The Indian Council Agricultural Research (ICAR) has ranked the Sher-i-Kashmir University of Agriculture Science and Technology (SKUAST)-Kashmir as 6th best agricultural university in India.
The ranking was released by Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Kailash Choudhary at the ICAR headquarters in New Delhi. The university jumped from 9th rank to the 6th rank in the All India Ranking of the agricultural universities from last year.
The ranking was released today by the education division of ICAR New Delhi during the Agricultural Education Day commemorated on December 3 every year.
After securing the 6th rank, SKUAST-K has joined the elite group of agriculture universities of the country. Besides securing 6th rank as an agricultural university, SKUAST-K figures at the 10th position among the best agricultural research institutes under ICAR.
“This is the composite score of research, teaching, extension and academics,” the document reads.
“This feat is the result of the steadfast commitment of teachers, researchers, administration, students and other staff of the university who all toiled hard to improve the ranking of the University,” said general secretary, Scientist Association SKUAST, Dr Aflaq.
The ranking was conducted by ICAR for the year 2021 for around 67 agricultural universities and research institutes ICAR rankings.
The SKUAST-Kashmir has improved its performance over the past four years in ICAR and has shifted from 27th position in 2017 to 6th position this year.
The university was ranked 24th in 2018, 9th in 2019 and has now jumped to 6th in 2021.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, J P Sharma has expressed satisfaction over the achievement and praised the officers, deans, heads of the research stations, institutes, students, teaching and non-teaching staff for their hard work which made it possible for the university to improve the ranking of the university.
Notably, SKUAST-K has secured Rs 30 crore funding in 2019 for its institutional development under the World Bank-ICAR funded National Agriculture Higher Education Project (NAHEP).
Meanwhile, SKUAST-K Scientists & Teachers Association (SSTA) in a statement said it “takes pride to congratulate entire SKUAST-Kashmir family for their pain staking effort that has resulted in the enhancement of ranking of SKUAST-K among State Agriculture Universities (SAU) to position sixth and is a moment to cherish for all”.
“This recognition will foster more growth and work which will translate into welfare for various stake holders in Agriculture and Allied Sectors. The improvement in ranking assumes further significance as SKUAST-K was ranked 24th in 2018 and has reached 6th place in 2020. This is a proof of the tremendous work done by the university despite of all odds that has stood the test to time and has paved way for this recognition which is a triumph of spirit of the SKUAST family” the statement said.
