Teachers to be held responsible for fall in unacceptable dropout rate of students: Govt
Srinagar, Dec 07: In Jammu and Kashmir teachers would be held accountable and responsible for fall in unacceptable dropout rate of students studying in public schools, the officials said on Tuesday.
The Chief Secretary (CS), Dr. Arun Kumar Mehta in a review meeting of Samagra Shiksha—a centrally sponsored scheme directed the School Education Department that “the fall of drop out ratio beyond an acceptable level in a given school should be made an area of responsibility of the teachers in that school and accountability of the errant teachers fixed in case the enrolment declines below the acceptable level.”
Dr. Mehta said that the administration has observed that the universal participation in school by carefully tracking students as well as their learning levels can be achieved by ensuring that they are enrolled in and attending schools.
“They shall have suitable opportunities to catch up and re-enter schools in case they have fallen behind or dropped out,” he said.
He further said that for providing equitable and quality education from foundational stage to Grade 12, suitable facilitating systems should be put in place.
“Similarly for discouraging irresponsible behavior, adequate deterrence should be built into the system,” Mehta said.
