Ukraine Crisis: J-K students launch toll-free number to help stranded Kashmiri students
NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir students association has launched a toll-free number to assist students who are stranded in Ukraine during the Russian military attack. The toll-free number provided by the students association is 18008919650.
The association has also set up other helpline numbers such as 9149676014, 790634 8764, 8825005327, 7006228608 for students to get in touch and get assistance. The association also asked students to connect and submit their details such as name, contact, family contact, college and present address. The national spokesperson of the association said in a statement that those studying in Ukraine colleges and universities, and are stranded in war-torn Ukraine can connect through the toll-free number.
The association also informed that it is coordinating with the J-K Lieutenant Governors’ office, which is in touch with the external affairs ministry for evacuation related details. “We have located and identified around 50 students out of 170 as of now and have shared their details to the Lieutenant Governor’s office and officials of the Ministry of External Affairs. The Union Territory Government is in constant touch with the Ministry of External Affairs and the embassy in Ukraine. Necessary measures are being taken to evacuate them at the earliest,” said a statement from the students association.
Danish Lone, additional spokesperson of the association said that the students want to immediately return back home. He urged the ministry of external affairs to take necessary action to ensure safety and facilitate the safe return of students. The families of the stranded students are worried. The students do not have cash and supplies in supermarkets have got over, he said.
