CBSE Issues Important Reminder on Class 10 & 12 Practical Exams 2026: Key Instructions for Schools
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a crucial reminder to all its affiliated schools regarding the conduct of Class 10 and Class 12 practical examinations, projects, and internal assessments for the academic session 2025–26. The Board has urged schools to strictly adhere to its prescribed guidelines to ensure the smooth, timely, and error-free execution of all assessment components.
Why the Reminder Matters
Practical exams form a significant portion of the overall evaluation for Class 10 and 12 students. For 2026, the Board has emphasised strict compliance with timelines and assessment procedures to uphold fairness and academic integrity. Schools have been instructed to take proactive steps in preparation and execution, with no scope for laxity.
Key Instructions for Schools
According to the CBSE reminder, the following measures must be ensured:
🧪 Conduct Assessments Within Scheduled Dates
All practical exams, project work, and internal assessments must be carried out between January 1 and February 14, 2026. This window applies to regular session schools. Winter-bound schools had their practicals scheduled earlier, between November 6 and December 6, 2025.
📋 Advance Communication with Students & Parents
Schools should circulate the practical timetable well in advance so that students and parents are fully aware of schedules and requirements.
🏫 Adequate Infrastructure & Equipment
Laboratories must be fully equipped with all necessary materials, apparatus and safety arrangements to facilitate a seamless practical experience.
👩🏫 External Examiner Coordination
For Class 12 practical exams, only CBSE-appointed external examiners are authorised to conduct assessments. Schools are expected to coordinate with these examiners early to avoid any delays or disruptions.
📲 Real-Time Marks Uploading
Marks must be uploaded on the same day the assessment is conducted. Importantly, no corrections are permitted once marks are uploaded, so schools must ensure accurate and verified entries.
♿ Support for CWSN Students
The Board has underscored the importance of providing adequate support to Children with Special Needs (CWSN) during practical assessments so that every student can participate comfortably and fairly.
⚠️ Strict Compliance Required
Non-compliance with the Board’s instructions may lead to cancellation of the practical examinations or other administrative actions by CBSE.
Final Notes
This fresh reminder comes as part of CBSE’s ongoing efforts to streamline exam-related processes and ensure fairness across all assessment types. Schools are urged to review the detailed guidelines issued by the Board and reach out to their respective CBSE Regional Office for any clarifications.
For students and parents, being well-informed about these procedures will help in better preparation and stress-free completion of practical components that contribute significantly to the final results.
