FFRC Takes Strict Action Against Schools for Overcharging, Bans Advance Fee Collection

FFRC Cracks Down on Schools for Overcharging, Forcing Advance Fees

Schools Barred from Charging Full Transport Fee During Vacations; Advance Payments Cannot Be Forced

Srinagar, Dec 4: The Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) J&K has once again issued a strong directive to private schools across the Union Territory following multiple complaints of overcharging, particularly during vacation periods.

In a fresh circular issued by the Chairman FFRC, as per news agency JKNS, the Committee has reiterated that schools are not permitted to collect full transport fees during winter or summer vacations. Only 50% of the transport fee is allowed, depending on whether the institution falls in the winter or summer zone.

The circular notes that several schools were found violating earlier guidelines by demanding full transport charges even when transportation services remained suspended. The Committee stated that such practices are unacceptable and must cease immediately.

The FFRC has also taken serious note of schools compelling parents to pay advance fees. The circular clearly states that tuition fees must be collected on a monthly basis, and no school is allowed to force parents or students to pay in advance.

However, it clarified that advance payment remains optional for parents who wish to do so, and no institution can pressure or coerce those who choose not to pay in advance.

The Committee has directed all schools to adhere strictly to the guidelines and warned that any violations will invite strict action under the rules. (JKNS)
