High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh Notification: District Judges (Entry Level) Recruitment 2024 – Syllabus and Eligibility Details
The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has issued a notification (No: 1841 of 2024/RG/GS, Dated: 08/08/2024) inviting applications from eligible advocates for the posts of District Judges (Entry Level) in the High Court. These vacancies fall under the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Judicial Service Rules, 2009.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for these posts:
Candidates must possess a degree in law from a recognized university in India and be enrolled as an advocate with the Bar Council of India.
They must have at least seven years of active practice as an advocate, with relevant certificates from the Principal District and Sessions Judge/Registrar Judicial of the High Court.
Candidates should be between 35 and 45 years old as of the date of application.
Relaxations are provided for reserved categories as per government rules.

Application Details
Applications must be submitted online. Candidates who have already applied pursuant to the earlier notification No. 03 of 2024 (dated 05.06.2024) do not need to apply again.
Selection Process
The selection will be based on a preliminary written examination and viva-voce. The examination will include objective questions from three papers, each carrying equal marks. A cumulative grade will determine the final selection.

As per Annexure-B, the syllabus under Rule 8 (1)(a) of the Jammu and Kashmir Higher Judicial Service Rules, 2009, is as follows:

Essay
Translation of passage in Urdu to English or Hindi to English

Part-II
Judgment Writing on Civil Original & Civil Appellate side
Civil law topics, including Partnership Acts, Contracts, Arbitration, Transfer of Property Act, Land Alienation Acts, and Motor Vehicles Act.
Questions on laws relating to marriage, divorce, and succession involving Hindus, Muslims, Christians, and Buddhists.
PAPER-II
Part-I
Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), Indian Penal Code (IPC), Indian Evidence Act, and related criminal laws.
Interpretation of Statutes, Legal Drafting, and Pleading.
Part-II
Judgment Writing on Criminal Original & Criminal Appellate side
Questions on laws including Juvenile Justice, Anti-Corruption, Prevention of Corruption, Evidence Act, and laws relating to terrorism and drug-related activities.
Candidates are required to attempt nine questions in each paper, divided evenly across the two parts.
