Traffic Advisory for Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and Other Key Routes in J&K
Current Traffic Situation (29-30 January 2025)
From 29 January 2025 (1700 hrs) to 30 January 2025 (1700 hrs), traffic movement on Jammu-Srinagar NH-44 remained slow due to:
- Breakdown of heavy motor vehicles (HMVs).
- Single-lane traffic at Dalwas, Mehad, Marog, and Kishtwari Pather due to ongoing four-lane construction work.
Travel Advisory for Commuters
Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44)
- Daytime Travel Recommended: Passengers and light motor vehicle (LMV) operators are advised to travel during the daytime due to the risk of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.
- Heavy Motor Vehicle (HMV) Advisory:
- Goods carriers transporting fresh perishable items or livestock must follow Traffic Police Headquarters’ guidelines due to the poor road conditions at Dalwas, Mehad, Marog, and Kishtwari Pather.
- No Overloading: HMV operators must avoid overloading and ensure vehicles are in proper working condition.
- Fuel Check: Operators must carry sufficient fuel before embarking on the journey.
- Restricted Movement for Large HMVs: Only HMVs with 06 and 10 tyres are allowed to ply through Dhar Road.
- Caution for Commuters: Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary stops between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide-prone areas.
Traffic Plan & Advisory for 31 January 2025
- LMVs (Passenger/Private Cars) and HMVs will be allowed from both sides on Jammu-Srinagar NH-44, subject to fair weather and road conditions.
- Traffic Control Units (TCUs) in Jammu and Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban for real-time updates.
- Commuters are encouraged to check the official J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page for NH-44 status updates.
Security Forces (SFs) Convoy Movement
- SFs vehicles will be permitted to ply from both sides on NH-44, depending on weather and road conditions.
Status of Other Key Roads
Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Road (NH-244)
- Closed as per the advisory issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Kokernag, on 16 January 2025.
Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) Road
- One-way traffic for LMVs followed by HMVs (up to 06 tyres) will be permitted from Kargil towards Srinagar, based on road maintenance agency clearance.
- Vehicles will be allowed from Minamarg to Srinagar between 1000 hrs to 1500 hrs. No movement will be allowed after the cutoff time.
- Anti-skid chains are mandatory for vehicles due to slippery road conditions.
Mughal Road
- Closed for vehicular movement as per the District Magistrate Poonch’s order dated 18 January 2025, due to snow accumulation.
Bhaderwah-Chamba Road
- Remains closed due to heavy snow accumulation.
