Weather Update J&K: Rain and Snow Forecast Issued, Advisory in Place
The Meteorological Department Srinagar (MET SRN) has issued a fresh weather update for Jammu and Kashmir, indicating a spell of rain and snowfall activity over the coming days. January 21
- Weather conditions are expected to remain generally dry across most parts of the Union Territory.
- Isolated higher reaches may experience a brief spell of light snowfall, particularly during late hours.
January 22–23
- Skies will remain generally cloudy.
- Light to moderate rain/snow is expected at most places.
- ⚠️ Heavy rain/snow is possible over:
- Parts of the Chenab Valley
- Pir Panjal range
- Several districts of South Kashmir (South KMR)
- The intensity is likely to increase during the night of January 22 and continue till January 23.
January 24
- Light rain or snowfall is expected at scattered places.
- Overall intensity will reduce compared to previous days.
January 25
- Weather activity will further weaken.
- Light rain/snow at a few places is expected.
January 26–27
- Another active weather system is likely to affect the region.
- Light to moderate rain/snow is expected at most places.
- ⚠️ Moderate to heavy rain/snow may occur at a few locations, particularly during the night of January 26 through January 27.
January 28–31
- Weather conditions are expected to improve.
- The region will remain partly cloudy, with no major precipitation activity.

In view of the expected weather conditions, the Meteorological Department has issued the following advisories:
- Heavy rain/snow is likely over a few districts of:
- Pir Panjal range
- Chenab Valley
- South Kashmir during the night of January 22–23 and January 26–27.
- Gusty winds and hailstorms may occur at isolated places.
- There is a risk of landslides at vulnerable locations, especially in hilly and mountainous areas.
- Travelers are advised to:
- Plan journeys carefully
- Stay updated with traffic and administrative advisories
- Avoid unnecessary travel during peak weather activity
- Farmers are advised to:
- Suspend farm operations during the above-mentioned periods to avoid losses and safety risks.
