Supreme Court issues notice on plea demanding cancellation of NEET-UG 2024.
The Supreme Court on Tuesday issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) in response to a plea demanding the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 examination due to alleged paper leaks and irregularities. The plea, filed by ten NEET candidates, seeks a fresh examination, arguing that the integrity of the test has been compromised. The court’s vacation bench, comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah, highlighted the seriousness of the issue, stating, “Sanctity has been affected, we need answers.” The court has scheduled the matter for further hearing on July 8.
The petitioners claim that the NEET-UG 2024 examination, held on May 5 and whose results were declared on June 4, was marred by significant malpractices. They allege that paper leaks occurred, providing an unfair advantage to certain candidates. This, they argue, violates Article 14 of the Indian Constitution, which guarantees the right to equality, as it undermines the fairness and integrity of the examination process. The petition emphasizes that the alleged irregularities have severely affected the credibility of the exam, necessitating a fresh and fair conduct of the test.
Despite the serious allegations, the Supreme Court refused to halt the ongoing counselling process for admissions to MBBS, BDS, and other related courses for successful candidates. The bench firmly stated, “We will not stop the counselling. If you argue further, we will dismiss this.” This decision ensures that the admission process continues without interruption, even as the court seeks to address the concerns raised by the petitioners about the examination’s conduct.

“Sanctity has been affected, we need answers,” the top court’s vacation bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath and Justice Ahsanuddin Amanullah said, as it tagged the petition filed by 10 NEET candidates.
The court also refused to stay the counselling process for admissions in MBBS, BDS, and other courses for successful candidates.
“We will not stop the counselling. If you argue further, we will dismiss this,” the court said.
The matter has been listed for further hearing on July 8.
The plea alleged that NEET-UG, 2024, was riddled with malpractices, as the petitioners had learned of various instances of paper leaks. The alleged paper leak was violative of Article 14 (right to equality) under the Constitution as it gave an undue advantage to some candidates over others who chose to attempt the examination in a fair manner, it said.

Notably, the NEET-UG examination is conducted by the NTA for admissions to MBBS, BDS and AYUSH and other related courses in government and private institutions across the country.
