Jammu & Kashmir Government Revises School Timings Due to Heatwave
July 23, 2024: In response to ongoing heatwave conditions and numerous requests from parents and stakeholders, the Directorate of School Education in Jammu & Kashmir has announced a change in school timings. According to Order No. 190 DSEK of 2024, effective immediately, school hours for all Government and Recognized Private Schools up to the Higher Secondary level in the Kashmir Division will now be from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm. This schedule applies to both rural and urban areas.
The order, dated July 23, 2024, specifies that this change is prompted by the current weather forecast, which predicts the continuation of heatwave conditions. To ensure the safety and well-being of students, the new timings aim to avoid the hottest part of the day.
Additionally, it has been clarified that both teaching and non-teaching staff are required to be present from 8:00 am to 2:00 pm. This adjusted schedule will remain in effect until August 10, 2024.
The directive has been communicated to all relevant officials and stakeholders to ensure smooth implementation.
