MeT predicts light to moderate rain, snowfall during next 36 hours in J&K
Srinagar, Feb 3: The Meteorological Department Srinagar has predicted light to moderate rain and snowfall at many places during the next 36 hours in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Met Office said the weather will remain mainly dry on Monday with the possibility of light rain/snow at isolated higher reaches towards late night.
It said on Tuesday the weather will generally remain cloudy with the possibility of light to moderate rain/snow at many places till the forenoon of Wednesday. The weather will improve thereafter, it said.
The higher reaches of Chenab Valley and Pirpanjal Range (south Kashmir) may receive a snow depth of 8 to 10 inches during the period.
There is a possibility of yet another spell of light rain/snow at isolated to scattered places on February 9 and light rain/snow at scattered to fairly widespread places during February 10 and 11, the MeT office said.
Barring tourist destinations of Pahalgam and Gulmarg, the night temperature recovered during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday and was above normal in all the weather stations of the Kashmir Valley.
Srinagar recorded a minimum of 1.5°C, and this was 2.1°C above the average for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during this period of the season. The day temperature recorded on Sunday was 2.0°C above the normal of 9.0°C in Srinagar.
The day temperature is likely to improve as the bright sun appeared on Monday in Srinagar.
The tourist destination of Pahalgam in south Kashmir had a low of -5.7°C, the ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district settled at -7.6°C, and Qazigund at -1.2°C on Monday, the MeT office said.–(UNI)
