About the Scholarship

The J N Tata Endowment invites applications from students who wish to pursue postgraduate, doctoral, or postdoctoral studies at internationally recognized institutions. Unlike conventional scholarships, this program offers a loan scholarship, which recipients must repay under specific terms. Additionally, selected candidates may be recommended for:

• A Partial Travel Grant – To support travel expenses.
• A Gift Award – A financial incentive based on academic performance in their overseas studies.

These awards are granted at the sole discretion of the Trustees of the concerned Trusts.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the J N Tata Endowment Loan Scholarship, candidates must meet the following requirements:

• Nationality: The applicant must be an Indian citizen.
• Educational Qualification:
  • Must have completed at least one undergraduate degree OR
  • Be in the final year of an undergraduate program at a recognized university/college in India.
• Course Level: The candidate must be admitted to a graduate-level program (postgraduate in Indian terminology) abroad.
• Academic Performance: A minimum of 60% marks (on average) in undergraduate or postgraduate studies.
• Age Limit: Must not be older than 45 years as of June 30, 2025.
• Reapplication Eligibility:
  • Students who were not selected in previous years may reapply.
  • Candidates who were selected previously but could not avail of the scholarship can also apply.
  • Students already pursuing postgraduate studies abroad can apply at the end of their first year or at the beginning of their second year, provided they have at least 12 months of study remaining.
