Traffic Advisory for Jammu-Srinagar National Highway and Other Routes (March 14, 2025)
Current Traffic Updates on NH-44
The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, Jammu/Srinagar, has issued an important update regarding the movement of vehicles on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44). From March 12, 2025 (1700 hrs) to March 13, 2025 (1700 hrs), slow traffic was observed due to the breakdown of three Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs), single-lane traffic at Dalwas and Mehad, and ongoing four-lane construction work between Marog and Kishtwari Pather.
Important Advisory for Commuters
- Daytime Travel Recommended: Passengers and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) operators are advised to travel during the daytime due to the risk of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.
- Goods Carriers Alert: HMV and LMV operators transporting perishable goods or livestock should adhere to the advisory issued by the Traffic Police Headquarters. Single-lane traffic and poor road conditions exist at Dalwas, Mehad, and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather.
- Vehicle Fitness and Fuel Requirements: HMV operators must avoid overloading and ensure their vehicles are in good condition before commencing their journey. Sufficient fuel should be carried, as breakdowns on the highway can lead to prolonged traffic delays.
- HMVs Allowed on Dhar Road: Only HMVs with six and ten tyres will be permitted to travel via Dhar Road.
- Avoid Unnecessary Haltage: Commuters are urged not to stop unnecessarily, especially in landslide-prone areas between Ramban and Banihal.
Traffic Plan for March 14, 2025
Subject to favorable weather and road conditions:
- LMVs (passenger and private cars) will be allowed to travel from both Jammu and Srinagar sides on NH-44.
- HMVs (load carriers) will be allowed to move from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar after an assessment of the road conditions. Traffic Control Units (TCUs) in Jammu and Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban for real-time updates.
- Commuters should check for the latest NH-44 updates on the J&K Traffic Police Twitter handle and Facebook page before starting their journey.
Security Forces Convoy Movement
Security Forces are advised not to travel against the traffic plan to prevent congestion between Nashree and Banihal. On March 14, 2025, SF convoys may move from Jammu to Srinagar only after confirming the NH-44 status from TCU Ramban.
