Traffic Advisory for Jammu & Kashmir: Movement Regulated on Key Highways Due to Road Conditions
The Traffic Police Headquarters, Jammu and Kashmir, has issued a detailed traffic advisory for May 18, 2025, highlighting regulated vehicular movement across several major routes including NH-44, Mughal Road, Sinthan Top, and SSG Road, owing to weather conditions, ongoing construction, and road maintenance activities.
NH-44: Jammu-Srinagar National Highway
Between 1700 hrs on May 16 to 1700 hrs on May 17, slow vehicular movement was observed on NH-44 due to:
- Breakdown of three Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs)
- Movement of five nomadic flocks
- Ongoing four-lane construction work
- Single lane traffic at key points like Dalwas, Peeda, Mehad, and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather
Traffic is currently being regulated at Mehad, Cafeteria, and Ramban due to a 150–200 meter single lane stretch. Commuters are advised to maintain lane discipline, avoid overtaking or wrong-lane driving to prevent further congestion.
Passengers and LMV operators are strongly advised to travel during the daytime as there’s a risk of shooting stones in the Ramban-Banihal sector.
Goods carriers transporting perishable items or livestock should strictly follow advisories issued by Traffic Police Headquarters and ensure vehicles are not overloaded, are roadworthy, and carry sufficient fuel.
Only HMVs with six and ten tyres will be allowed to use the Dhar Road.
All commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary stops between Ramban and Banihal, especially near landslide-prone areas.
Traffic Plan for May 18, 2025 – NH-44
