NMC Withdraws LoP for MBBS Course at SMVD Institute of Medical Excellence, Reasi
Students to Be Adjusted in Other Medical Colleges as Supernumerary Seats
Srinagar: The National Medical Commission (NMC) has withdrawn the Letter of Permission (LoP) granted to Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence, Kakryal, Reasi, for running the MBBS course with 50 seats for the academic year 2025–26.
As per news agency Kashmir News Corner (KNC), the NMC said that the decision was taken by its Medical Assessment and Rating Board (MARB) and came into effect immediately. The withdrawal follows serious deficiencies and non-compliance with minimum prescribed standards detected during a surprise inspection of the institute.
However, the Commission said that to protect the academic interests of students already admitted for the 2025–26 session, the State/UT authorities have been authorised to accommodate such students in other medical colleges within the Union Territory. These admissions will be adjusted as supernumerary seats in accordance with existing norms and regulations.
The order, dated January 6, 2026, underscores the NMC’s commitment to ensuring quality medical education and strict adherence to regulatory standards, the statement added. (KNC)
