Winter Vacations Extended for Jammu Summer Zone Schools Till January 17
The Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) has officially extended the winter vacations for all government and private schools falling in the Summer Zone of Jammu Division till January 17, 2026, due to the ongoing severe cold weather conditions.
The decision was announced through Order No. 17-DSEJ of 2026, issued on January 14, 2026, as a continuation of the earlier order dated January 11, 2026. The authorities said the extension was granted in view of the prevailing inclement weather, which continues to affect normal life and school operations.
Who Will Get the Holiday Extension?
The extended winter break will apply to:
- All Government Schools
- All Private Schools
- Both students and teaching staff
in the Summer Zone areas of Jammu Division.
Schools will now reopen on January 18, 2026, unless further orders are issued.
Board Exams Will Continue as Scheduled
The Directorate has clarified that JKBOSE Board Examinations for Classes 10th to 12th will continue as per the already notified schedule. Students appearing in board exams are required to follow the timetable without any changes.
Online Classes from Class 6th Onwards
To prevent academic loss, schools have been advised to explore the possibility of conducting online classes for students of Class 6 and above during the extended vacation period.
Republic Day Preparations to Continue
The order also makes it clear that Republic Day 2026 preparations must be carried out strictly according to the schedule notified by the competent authorities.
Why Was the Decision Taken?
The extension was granted due to harsh winter conditions and extremely low temperatures in many parts of the Jammu region, making it difficult for students to attend school safely.
