Educational Institutions to Reopen in Eight Kashmir Districts Tomorrow; Decision on Srinagar, Budgam in Evening

Srinagar, Mar 03: The Jammu and Kashmir government has decided to reopen schools, colleges and universities in eight districts of Kashmir from Wednesday, Education Minister Sakina Itoo said on Tuesday.

The announcement comes after authorities had ordered the closure of all educational institutions across the Valley as a precautionary measure in view of the prevailing situation.

However, the Minister said that a final decision regarding reopening of institutions in Srinagar and Budgam districts will be taken later this evening.

“As of now, institutions in eight districts will resume classes from tomorrow. The decision with regard to Srinagar and Budgam will be reviewed and announced shortly,” Itoo said.

Earlier, the government had temporarily suspended academic activities to ensure the safety of students following widespread protests in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.

It is pertinent to mention that schools up to Class 8 are scheduled to reopen tomorrow after a winter vacation of over two months. Classes for students of 9th to 12th had already resumed on February 23 after the winter break.

Colleges in the Kashmir Valley had also reopened on February 16 after observing 52 days of winter vacation, while the Higher Education Department had earlier notified the winter schedule for degree colleges in the Kashmir and winter zones of Jammu divisions. (JKNS)
