Weather Update J&K: Rain, Snow Likely at Intervals Till March-End; Advisory Issued for Farmers

Srinagar, March 23: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a detailed weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir, predicting a mix of cloudy conditions, dry spells, and intermittent rain and snowfall over the coming days.

According to the latest update, weather conditions across the Union Territory will remain mostly stable with occasional disturbances, particularly towards the end of March.

Forecast Details

On March 23, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy, with a brief spell of light rain or snowfall at a few places, especially during the afternoon hours.

The period from March 24 to 25 is likely to remain generally dry, providing temporary relief from wet weather conditions.

However, on March 26, cloud cover will increase again, and some areas may experience light rain or snowfall, particularly in the afternoon.

From March 27 to 28, the weather is expected to stay mostly dry, although isolated areas may witness brief spells of light rain or snow, which cannot be ruled out.

A more active weather system is expected between March 29 and 31, when the region will experience generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain in plains and snowfall in higher reaches. The MET department has also warned of thunderstorms and gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 km/h during this period.

For the beginning of April (April 1 to 3), weather conditions are expected to remain partly to generally cloudy, with no major disturbances predicted as of now.

Advisory for Farmers ⚠

In view of the changing weather conditions, especially the expected precipitation and gusty winds, the MET Centre Srinagar has issued an advisory for farmers.

Farmers are strongly advised to suspend all farming operations during the following dates:

  • March 23
  • March 26
  • March 29 to 31

This precaution is aimed at minimizing potential damage to crops and ensuring safety during periods of unstable weather.

The weather in Jammu and Kashmir over the next few days will remain dynamic, with alternating dry and wet phases. Residents, travelers, and especially farmers are advised to stay updated with official forecasts and take necessary precautions.
