Board Textbooks Developed by Experts; Uniform Curriculum Mandatory for All Schools: JKBOSE

Srinagar, Mar 19 (JKNS): The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has reiterated that all textbooks are developed by a dedicated panel of experts and that uniform curricula will be strictly implemented across all affiliated schools.

In a statement issued here to news agency JKNS, the board said textbooks are developed in alignment with the National Curriculum Frameworks, with a thorough process of review and finalization conducted solely by experts drawn from higher education, school education, and other distinguished fields. The board emphasized that no external publisher has the authority to dictate or alter prescribed textbooks.

The JKBOSE Act of 1975 and SRO 123 mandate that every affiliated school must follow textbooks and curricula prescribed by the board. The board also reminded that the Hon’ble High Court has upheld this mandate, reinforcing that all private schools must adhere to these guidelines.

The State Affiliation and Recognition Committees, in meetings held on August 7, 2013, and May 18, 2023, resolved that any deviation would invite disciplinary action, including penalties up to Rs. 50,000. Accordingly, JKBOSE has already issued a notification for strict implementation of its curriculum from the 2024–25 academic session for classes 1st to 12th.

The board also announced that special inspection teams, in collaboration with the School Education Department, will be formed to ensure compliance. Any institution found violating instructions will face action as per BOSE norms.

Free textbooks have already been distributed to government schools in winter zones, and measures have been taken to ensure availability of textbooks for private schools through registered booksellers. JKBOSE added that its textbooks are cost-effective, locally contextualized, well-researched, and printed to high standards. The board urged all affiliated schools, including private institutions, to prescribe only JKBOSE textbooks in the interest of maintaining uniform standards. (JKNS)
