CBSE Issues Guidelines for Class 10 & 12 Practical Exams: Instructions for Schools and Students
New Delhi — The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released important guidelines for the conduct of Class 10 and Class 12 practical examinations, project assessments and internal assessments for the 2025-26 academic session.
As the board examinations approach, the CBSE has directed all affiliated schools to strictly follow the updated procedures and timelines to ensure fair, smooth and transparent evaluation. The detailed instructions are available on the official CBSE website and are mandatory for schools, teachers, students and parents to follow.
Key Instructions for Schools
1. Practical Answer Books & Supplies
Schools must ensure they have received a sufficient number of practical answer books well before the scheduled dates of the practical examinations. Any shortage should be immediately reported to the respective regional CBSE office.
2. Laboratory Arrangements
All necessary infrastructure, equipment, apparatus and materials must be made available in the respective labs so that practical exams can be conducted without disruption.
3. Inclusive Arrangements for CWSN
Special provisions must be in place for Children With Special Needs (CWSN) to comfortably participate in practical exams, project work and internal assessments.
4. Uploading & Recording Marks
Schools are required to upload practical and assessment marks on the same day as the conduct of the exam. Once uploaded, marks cannot be modified later; schools are advised to verify the maximum marks and details before submission.
5. Sports & Extracurricular Participation
Participation in sports (national or international level) will not exempt students from appearing for practical exams. No separate tests will be conducted for such students outside the scheduled window.
6. Timeline for Practical Exams
The board has specified that practical examinations, project work and internal assessments must be completed between January 1 and February 14, 2026 for schools in the regular session.

✔ Preparation: Ensure proper preparation for practical evaluations, including understanding procedures and safety norms.
✔ Documentation: Students are advised to bring all required materials and documents (lab reports, project files, assessment records) as specified by the school.
