The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has extended the last date for submission of application forms for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) Examination 2025–26. The extension has been announced through an official notification issued by the Academic Division of JKBOSE.
According to the notification, students studying in Class 8 (VIII) in government schools across Jammu and Kashmir will now be able to submit their applications until March 31, 2026.
Deadline Extended for NMMS Applications
The extension comes as a continuation of earlier notifications issued on December 1, 2025 and January 22, 2026 regarding the NMMS examination. The authorities have decided to extend the deadline to allow more eligible students to apply for the scholarship scheme.
The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) is a centrally sponsored initiative aimed at supporting meritorious students from economically weaker sections. The scheme encourages students to continue their education and reduces dropout rates at the secondary level.
Submission Process for District Authorities
The notification further states that the Chief Education Officers (CEOs/DNOs) of all districts in Jammu and Kashmir are responsible for submitting the complete application forms along with required documents and district-wise databases.
These documents must be submitted to the CDR Wing at Bemina, Srinagar, or Rehari Colony, Jammu within seven days after the closing date of the notification.
About the NMMS Scholarship Scheme
The NMMS scholarship program provides financial assistance to deserving students studying in government schools. The scheme primarily targets students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and aims to motivate them to pursue higher education.
Students who qualify for the NMMS examination receive annual financial support, helping them continue their studies from secondary to higher secondary levels.
Importance for Students in J&K
The extension of the deadline is expected to benefit many students who were unable to apply earlier. Education authorities have also been asked to spread awareness among eligible students to ensure maximum participation in the NMMS examination.
Students and parents are advised to contact their respective schools or district education offices for assistance in completing the application process before the new deadline.
