MeT Predicts Moderate to Heavy Snowfall in J&K
Srinagar: The Meteorological Department has forecast moderate to heavy snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir’s higher reaches between January 4 and 6, with light snowfall likely in isolated areas prior to this period
Mukhtar Ahmad, Director of the Meteorological Department, as quoted by media reports, stated that light snowfall may occur in isolated areas of Jammu and Kashmir between January 1 and 2. However, the period from January 4 to 6 is expected to bring moderate to heavy snowfall to the higher reaches, with light to moderate snowfall across the Kashmir Valley and scattered parts of Jammu.

A cold wave is also forecast to persist in some areas on December 30 and 31, leading to sub-freezing temperatures and icy road conditions
Ahmad urged tourists, travelers, and transporters to exercise caution during this period due to potential disruptions caused by snowfall and freezing temperatures. Preparations are advised, especially in regions prone to heavy snowfall.
