New UGC System to Assess Institutes on NEP Implementation, Provide Benefits

The UGC has planned a new system to evaluate higher education institutions based on NEP 2020 implementation through a two-step process of qualifiers and quantifiers.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) is developing a system to evaluate higher education institutions (HEIs) based on their progress in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. This new system will play a role in determining privileges and entitlements under various UGC regulations.

The UGC’s evaluation framework involves a two-step process:

  1. Eligibility qualifiers: HEIs must meet mandatory benchmarks to qualify for privileges or entitlements.
  2. Quantifier parameters: Once eligible, institutions will be scored on specific parameters related to NEP initiatives and UGC regulations.

Institutions will answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’ to questions assessing their compliance. Points will be allocated based on supporting data or evidence provided by the HEIs.

STRICT GUIDELINES FOR APPLICATIONS

HEIs must submit accurate data to support their claims. False declarations or fabricated evidence will result in application rejection and possible further action by the UGC.

The UGC is seeking feedback from stakeholders and the public to refine the draft evaluation system. Suggestions can be submitted via a Google form available on the UGC website.

This new evaluation system links NEP 2020 implementation directly to institutional benefits, aiming to motivate HEIs to adopt the policy’s goals. The UGC has also clarified that detailed regulations and processes are accessible on its official website.
