Traffic Advisory Issued for Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and Other Key Routes in J&K – April 14, 2025
Jammu/Srinagar, April 13: The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, has issued a detailed traffic advisory for commuters traveling on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and other key roads across the Union Territory. The advisory covers movement plans, potential disruptions, and safety instructions for April 14, 2025.
NH-44 Movement Update:
From 5 PM on April 12 to 5 PM on April 13, the highway witnessed slow traffic due to the breakdown of three heavy motor vehicles (HMVs), the movement of nomadic flocks, ongoing four-lane construction work, and single-lane stretches at multiple points including Dalwas, Peeda, Mehad, and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather.
To manage congestion, traffic is being regulated at Mehad, Cafeteria Morh, and Ramban, where only 150–200 meters of road is available for single-lane movement. Commuters are urged to follow lane discipline, avoid overtaking, and show patience to ensure smoother traffic flow.
Travel Advisory for April 14:
Subject to favorable weather and road conditions, passenger light motor vehicles (LMVs) will be allowed to move from both sides—Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa. However, HMVs (load carriers) will only be permitted from Qazigund (Navyug Tunnel) towards Jammu, depending on road assessment by Traffic Control Units (TCUs).
Important Notes for Drivers:
- Daytime Travel Recommended: LMV and passenger vehicle operators are advised to travel during the day due to the risk of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.
- Special Instructions for HMVs:
- Only vehicles with 6 or 10 tyres will be allowed via Dhar Road.
- Vehicles carrying perishable goods or livestock should adhere to existing advisories.
- Avoid overloading and ensure vehicles are fit and fueled before traveling.
- Avoid Unnecessary Stoppages: Especially between Ramban and Banihal in areas prone to landslides and shooting stones.
Other Route Updates:
- Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari (SSG) Road: Subject to weather and clearance from BRO, one-way traffic (LMVs with anti-skid chains followed by 6-tyre HMVs) will be allowed from Kargil towards Srinagar, only till 1:30 PM.
- Mughal Road, Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Road, and Bhaderwah-Chamba Road remain closed due to snow accumulation and administrative orders.
Security Forces Movement: Security forces are advised to avoid non-scheduled movement on NH-44 due to narrow stretches between Nashree and Banihal. Movement may be permitted from Srinagar to Jammu only after confirming with TCU Ramban.
