Traffic Advisory for Jammu-Srinagar NHW and Other Key Routes – April 7, 2025

The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K has issued a detailed advisory regarding traffic movement on National Highway-44 and other important routes in the Union Territory for April 7, 2025. Commuters are urged to stay updated on road conditions and follow guidelines to ensure smooth and safe travel.

NH-44 (Jammu-Srinagar National Highway) Status

From 5 PM on April 5 to 5 PM on April 6, NH-44 experienced slow traffic movement due to:

  • Breakdown of three Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs)
  • Movement of two nomadic flocks
  • Single lane bottlenecks at Dalwas, Peeda, Mehad, and between Marog and Kishtwari Pather
  • Ongoing four-laning construction work

Traffic was managed in a regulated manner at Mehad, Cafeteria, and Ramban where only single-lane passage (150–200 meters) is operational. Commuters are advised to maintain lane discipline and avoid overtaking or wrong-lane driving, which can lead to severe congestion.

Advisories for Commuters

  • Daytime travel recommended on Jammu-Srinagar NHW due to the risk of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.
  • Goods carriers carrying perishables or livestock must follow the loading guidelines and ensure fitness and fuel sufficiency, especially in single-lane areas like Dalwas and Marog-Kishtwari Pather.
  • Overloading is strictly discouraged. Only HMVs with 6 and 10 tyres are allowed on the Dhar Road.
  • Commuters should avoid unnecessary halts, particularly between Ramban and Banihal.

Traffic Plan for April 7, 2025

  • Subject to fair weather and road conditions, LMVs (passenger/private cars) will be allowed from both sides on NH-44 – Jammu to Srinagar and vice versa.
  • HMVs (load carriers) will be allowed only from Jakheni (Udhampur) towards Srinagar, after TCU Jammu and Srinagar assess road conditions in coordination with TCU Ramban.

Security Forces Movement

Security convoys are advised not to move against the traffic plan due to the narrow carriageway between Nashree and Banihal. Movement from Jammu to Srinagar may be allowed after confirming road status from TCU Ramban.

Other Key Road Updates

  • Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag Road (NH-244): Closed as per SDM Kokernag’s advisory dated January 16, 2025.
  • SSG Road (Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari): Only one-way LMV traffic (passenger/load) from Srinagar to Kargil allowed, with anti-skid chains. Movement permitted up to 11:30 AM from Sonamarg. No HMV movement allowed.
