Weather Update for Jammu & Kashmir: November Forecast

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has released a weather forecast for the coming days in Jammu and Kashmir, with important updates on rain and snow that may affect travel in the region.

Forecast Overview:

  • Nov. 12-13: Predominantly dry weather is expected across Jammu & Kashmir, offering clear skies and suitable travel conditions.
  • Nov. 14-15: Light rain and snowfall are anticipated, particularly affecting higher elevations in the Kashmir Valley and parts of Jammu Division. Snow may occur on major passes, potentially impacting routes to popular destinations and high-altitude areas.
  • Nov. 16: Light rain and snow are forecast at scattered locations, primarily in the higher reaches, before the weather clears up later in the day.
  • Nov. 17-23: Dry weather is expected to prevail across the region, allowing for more favorable conditions for travelers and local residents.

Travel Advisory:

The Meteorological Centre has issued an advisory, particularly for tourists and travelers:

  • Potential Road Disruptions: Light snowfall on higher passes, including Zojila, Razdan Pass, Sinthan Top, and Mughal Road, may disrupt surface transportation, especially during nighttime and early hours on November 14 and 15. Travelers are advised to plan accordingly.
  • Safety Precautions: Those visiting Kashmir’s mountainous areas or planning road journeys across high passes should monitor local updates and prepare for possible delays. Caution is recommended for anyone traveling to or from higher regions, where road conditions can quickly become challenging during snow.

Recommendations for Tourists:

For those exploring Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in the Kashmir Valley, this period may bring a scenic layer of snow over the higher reaches. However, travelers should remain cautious and keep emergency supplies on hand, especially if planning trips on high-altitude roads.

As winter sets in, the MET Centre continues to monitor conditions closely and advises visitors to stay informed on real-time weather updates for any adjustments to the forecast.
