Weather Update for J&K: Heatwave Persists, Rain Likely Over Weekend

Srinagar, May 16:
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a detailed weather forecast for Jammu and Kashmir spanning from May 16 to May 25, highlighting a mix of heatwave conditions and intermittent rainfall across the Union Territory.

According to the forecast, the weather is expected to remain generally hot and dry on May 16 and 17, with a chance of brief rain or thundershowers at a few places, particularly during the late afternoon hours.

Moving into the weekend, May 18 and 19, the region may experience intermittent light rain, thundershowers, and gusty winds at scattered locations, mainly from the evening of May 18 through the evening of May 19.

From May 20 to 23, conditions are expected to return to hot and dry, although brief spells of rain may occur at isolated places, especially in the late afternoons. Looking ahead to May 24 and 25, skies are forecast to remain generally cloudy, with the possibility of brief rain or thundershowers.

Advisory Issued:

  • A heatwave warning has been issued for isolated places in both Kashmir and Jammu divisions till May 18.
  • Farmers are advised to continue farm operations up to May 18, taking advantage of the mostly dry weather.
  • There is a possibility of thunder, lightning, and gusty winds at a few places during the evening of May 18 to the evening of May 19.

Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated with the latest weather reports and take necessary precautions, especially during the heatwave period.
