42 Gazetted, 229 Non-Gazetted Positions Vacant in G&M Department

JAMMU: There are 42 Gazetted and 229 Non-Gazetted posts vacant in the Geology and Mining Department in Jammu and Kashmir.

This information was provided by the Union Minister of Mines, Coal, and Parliamentary Affairs, Prahlad Joshi in response to a question of the National Conference MP Justice (retired) Hasnain Masoodi in the Parliament today.

“As per the information provided by the UT of Jammu and Kashmir, there are 113 sanctioned posts in the Gazetted category in the department. Out of these, 71 Gazetted posts are filled and 42 are vacant,” the Union Minister told the Parliament.

Of the 42 vacant Gazetted posts, he said, 9 come under direct recruitment quota and have been referred to the concerned recruiting agency for selection of suitable candidates and the remaining 33 posts are under promotion quota, which are vacant due to the non-eligibility of the Departmental Officers for promotion.

He said that UT of Jammu and Kashmir has further informed that in Non-Gazetted category, there are 434 sanctioned posts, out of which 205 posts are filled and 229 posts are vacant.

Of the 229 vacant Non-Gazetted posts, he said, 83 come under direct recruitment quota and have been referred to the concerned recruiting agency for selection of suitable candidates and 142 posts are vacant due to non-eligibility of the Departmental Officers for promotion.

Further, the Union Minister said that 4 posts of Junior Surveyor could not be referred to the recruiting agency due to want of amendment in recruitment rules.

In Multi-Tasking Staff category, he said, the sanctioned strength is 575 posts, out of which 307 are filled and 268 are vacant.

“Out of the vacant posts, 9 have been referred to the concerned recruiting agency for selection of suitable candidates, whereas 259 posts pertain to Jammu and Kashmir Daily Rated Workers/Work Charged Employees (Regularisation) Rules, 1994,” he said, while quoting the figures provided by the J&K Government.

Pralhad Joshi, the Union Minister of Mines, Coal, and Parliamentary Affairs added that 47 employees of the Jammu and Kashmir Cements Limited (JKCL) have been deployed to the Department of Geology and Mining on deputation basis by the UT Government to cater the deficiency of manpower.

Besides, all steps have been taken by the UT Government to address the concerns of the deficiency of the staff in the Department of Geology and Mining, he said.
