The J&K Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS) Mission has announced the eligibility criteria for the recruitment of Anganwadi Workers (AWWs) and Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs) in Jammu and Kashmir.

Eligibility for Anganwadi Workers (AWWs):

  • Must be a domicile of the Union Territory (UT) of J&K.
  • Female candidates between 18 and 37 years old (as of January 1, 2024) are eligible.
  • Must be a resident of the electoral ward where the Anganwadi Centre (AWC) is located with proof of residence (voter list).
  • Minimum educational qualification: 10+2 (higher secondary school certificate) and maximum graduation. Relaxations apply:
    • If no 10+2 candidate is available in the ward, a candidate from the adjoining ward with 10+2 and approval from Mission Director, Mission POSHAN, can be considered.
    • If no suitable candidate is found in the adjoining ward, a candidate from the nearest ward within the Panchayat can be considered with approval from the Mission Director.
  • Selection will be based purely on merit with weightage given to marks obtained in 10+2.
  • In case of a tie, the older candidate will be preferred.
  • Candidates with qualifications higher than graduation will not be considered.

Eligibility for Anganwadi Helpers (AWHs):

  • Selection is restricted to the electoral ward where the AWC is located.
  • Female candidates between 18 and 37 years old (as of January 1, 2024) are eligible.
  • Must be a domicile of the UT of J&K.
  • Minimum educational qualification: Matriculation (10th standard). Relaxation applies:
    • If no matriculate candidate is available in the ward, candidates with a minimum qualification of 8th standard can be considered.
  • Selection will be based on merit, with preference given to widows or destitute women in rare and exceptional cases, if other factors are equal.
  • Unmarried candidates will only be selected if no married candidates are available.
  • An additional two percentage points will be given to eligible candidates within the family of retiring AWWs/AWHs.
