Bandipora girls selected to represent Kashmir in Pencak silat Championship at Amritsar

Bandipora, Jan 13:- Two students from Hassan Kuhamiya Degree college of Bandipora have been selected to represent Kashmir valley in upcoming Pencak silat championship at Guru Nanak, Dev university Amritsar.
Sabhat Afreen and Tabinda Majeed, both students of HKM degree college Bandipora, were selected from the upcoming championship.
These girls were representing the college in the Inter university championship held at Kashmir university Srinager.
Speaking with the media Sabhat Afreen said that it was possible only because of the support of the college authorities. The college equally provides opportunities to girls in sports apart from classwork.
She also said that the college provides opportunities to girls to come forward and show their skills in both sports and academics.
“It is important for girls to join any sports. It keeps a person mentally and physically fit. Pencak silat is not only a martial art technique which teaches us self defense also which is important for a girl,” Tabinda another selected student said.
Wishing the students for her selection Principal govt Degree college Bandipora, Dr Masood Ahmad Malik said that the college authorities are committed to provide opportunities for both boys and girls in sports apart from academics.
He also said that the students are doing well in sports. “Last year one of the girls was selected for the Kashmir university cricket team and the boys cricket team of the college reached the finals as well,” he added.
