Centre advises J&K admin to increase enrollment percentage of secondary level students

Srinagar, Aug 28 (KNO): Union Ministry has advised the Jammu and Kashmir administration to increase the enrollment percentage of students studying at secondary level.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Ministry of Education (MoE) in Project Approval Meeting (PAB) while reviewing the Gross Enrollment Ratio said, “The enrollment percentage of children studying at Secondary level should be increased.”

“Jammu and Kashmir UT would need to see where these five lakh children are going and focus on improving the enrollment percentage of children at government schools and strategize to attract children towards government schools at the secondary level,” ir reads.

Stating the developmental initiatives, the representatives of JK in the meeting said, “The development of Model KGs under the UT initiative has been one of the measures taken during 2022-23.”

“Under the initiatives more than 1000 Modet KGs have been developed and equipped with the requisite infrastructure and other facilities,” reads the official document.

It also said that the awareness of communities regarding the significance of Pre-School education has been another best practice which the UT has successfully conducted.

“It was due to this that the enrolment at Pre-primary level has witnessed massive enrolment during 2022-23 under which more than 146,000 students got enrolled for Pre-primary against the 70559 students in 2021-22,” JK representatives informed MoE.

Besides, it also said that the efforts are continuing and the target is to have the enrolment in every Pre-Primary section. “The Department of School Education has developed a vibrant group of Master Trainers on ECCE most of whom have done their Diploma in ECCE through NCERT New Delhi.”

MoE was also informed that the expertise of these MTs were extended to the Social Welfare Department, in training their Master Trainers. The Department utilizes these master trainers to train AWWs—(KNO)
