SRINAGAR, Jan 4 (KB): has received an order from officials of the Directorate of School Education Jammu (DSEJ) regarding an extension of the ongoing winter vacations in the summer zone of the Jammu division.
The order states that the winter vacation which was originally scheduled to end on December 18th, 2023 per DSEJ order number 1354-DSEJ issued on December 18th, 2023, has now been extended until January 6th, 2024. This extension applies to all government and private recognized schools located in the summer zone of the Jammu division.
In the order received by Kashmir Bulletin, the DSEJ cited inclement weather conditions as the reason for extending the vacation period. The order warns that any violations by school heads or teaching staff would attract disciplinary action as per rules.
The annual winter vacations in Jammu normally last for about two weeks in the month of December. However, extended vacations are not uncommon during harsh winters.
The summer zone of Jammu, which includes areas like Jammu city, Akhnoor, Samba and Kathua, generally experiences milder winters compared to the hilly areas of the region. The extension of vacations indicates that the cold wave has been more intense this season.
The order received by Kashmir Bulletin from DSEJ officials is expected to bring respite for students and teaching staff alike, allowing them to avoid commuting to schools in freezing weather. The education department aims to ensure safety and prevent hardship under such conditions by timely announcements of vacation extensions.–(Kashmir Bulletin)
