Election Mode On! Model code of conduct enforced in J&K
Srinagar, Aug 16 (KB): The Election Commission has announced that the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is now in effect for Jammu & Kashmir following the recent election schedule announcement.
“This code applies to all candidates, political parties, and government officials in the Union Territory. It also extends to the Union Government concerning any decisions or announcements related to Jammu & Kashmir,” reads a handout which lies with the Kashmir Bulletin (KB).
It further reads, to ensure compliance, the Commission has implemented detailed arrangements for enforcement. Any violations of the MCC will face strict penalties. Political parties, candidates, and their representatives are advised to thoroughly understand these guidelines to avoid any issues.
Furthermore, the Commission has directed the Jammu & Kashmir government to prevent any misuse of official machinery during the MCC period. Special Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) have been issued for the first and last 72 hours of the election period to ensure vigilant enforcement and effective monitoring.—(KB)
