Weather Update for Jammu & Kashmir: 14th February 2024

   

A series of moderate to intense Western Disturbances is anticipated to impact Jammu & Kashmir and its surrounding regions starting from the afternoon of the 17th of February. This weather system is expected to bring an extended wet spell lasting until the afternoon of the 21st of February.

Forecast:

Kashmir Division

– 17th Feb: Partly to generally cloudy skies with the possibility of light snow at isolated higher reaches towards late night.
– 18th Feb: Generally cloudy conditions with the likelihood of light to moderate rain/snow at many places.
– 19-20th Feb: Anticipated occurrence of light to moderate rain/snow at most places, including plains and lower reaches. There is a possibility of heavy snowfall over middle and higher reaches of Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora, Ganderbal, Badgam, Shopian, and Kulgam districts during the late afternoon/evening of the 19th to the late night of the 20th.
– 21st Feb: Possibility of light to moderate snow at many places until the afternoon/late afternoon, with gradual improvement thereafter.

Jammu Division

– 18th Feb: Probability of light rain/snow at many places.
– 19th-20th Feb: Intermittent light to moderate rain with thunder/lightning in plains of Jammu Division, and light to moderate snowfall over higher reaches with heavy snowfall over isolated higher reaches of Ramban, Poonch, Doda, and Kishtwar.
– 21st Feb: Expectation of light to moderate snow/rain/thunder/lightning over many places until late afternoon/evening, with gradual improvement thereafter.

Advisory ⚠:

1. This weather system may lead to temporary closures of roads in higher reaches and important passes such as Sinthan pass, Mughal Road, Sadhna & Razdan pass, Zojila, etc.
2. Travelers are strongly advised to plan accordingly considering potential disruptions.
3. Farmers are urged to withhold irrigation and fertilizer application, as well as drain out excess water from orchards and fields during the specified period.
4. A significant drop in day temperature is expected during this period.
