Good News: 216 Prisons Department Posts Revived by J&K Government

Revival of Warder and Warder Driver Posts in J&K Prisons Department

Jammu and Kashmir, 30 May 2024 – The Government of Jammu and Kashmir’s Home Department has officially sanctioned the revival of 210 posts of Warders and 6 posts of Warder Drivers in the Prisons Department, as per Government Order No. 244-Home of 2024 dated 30 May 2024.

This decision comes after an extensive review and consultation process involving multiple departments. The Finance Department, through U.O No. FD-Code/67/2022-03-Part(1)-51 dated 1 May 2024, and the General Administration Department, via U.O No. GAD-CORD/53/2024-09-GAD dated 24 May 2024, provided the necessary references for this revival.

The need for these posts was highlighted by the Director General (DG) of Prisons, J&K, who forwarded the indents for all vacant non-gazetted positions within the department to the J&K Service Selection Board (SSB) for recruitment initiation. Initially, it was observed that 257 Warder posts and 6 Warder Driver posts were deemed to be abolished under the Finance Department’s circular instructions due to their prolonged vacancy of over two years.

However, upon further scrutiny, the DG Prisons, J&K, submitted justifications for the revival of these positions, along with detailed financial implications. The Finance Department examined the matter and concurred with the proposal to revive 210 Warder posts and 6 Warder Driver posts. This revival aims to address the operational needs and enhance the functionality of the Prisons Department.

The approval indicates the posts will be filled under the Pay Level L2, ensuring that the positions are reinstated in accordance with financial regulations and departmental requirements.

This move is expected to strengthen the workforce within the Prisons Department, improving the management and operational efficiency of correctional facilities in Jammu and Kashmir.
