Srinagar: Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Pre-Matric Scholarships for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) students studying in classes IX and X is implemented by the Department of Social Welfare, Jammu and Kashmir. The scheme aims to support SC/ST students to complete their secondary education and reduce the dropout rate.
Eligibility:
- The scholarship is awarded to SC/ST students whose parents/guardians’ income does not exceed Rs. 2.5 lakhs per annum.
- Students should be enrolled in class IX and X in a government school or a school recognized by the government or a central board.
- Students should not be receiving any other scholarship for studying in classes IX and X.
Scholarship Components:
The scholarship provides a maintenance allowance of Rs. 250 per month for day scholars and Rs. 500 per month for hostellers.
NSP Post Matric Scholarship 2024 Jammu Kashmir
- it also provides reimbursement of compulsory non-refundable fees charged by the school, subject to a ceiling of Rs. 1500 per annum.
- An additional allowance of Rs. 500 per annum is paid as an escort allowance for severely disabled students.
- Students belonging to SC/ST communities admitted through Right to Education in private schools are also eligible.
Application Process:
- Students can apply online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) at scholarships.gov.in.
- Hard copies of application and documents must also be submitted to the concerned department.
- Renewal applications must be submitted every year.
- Aadhaar number is mandatory for all applicants.

- Funds are shared between the centre and state in a 60:40 ratio (90:10 for north east states).
