Kashmir no more the land of Hartals, school closures, separatist activities: LG Manoj Sinha

Terror Ecosystem destroyed to large extent; Democracy flourishing on every inch of UT; upgrading tourism infrastructure to accommodate more tourists; G-20 will help remove negative travel advisory of some foreign countries on J&K; World class hotels to come up in UT soon; E-buses to ply in Sgr-Jammu soon; Pak has no locus standi to question G-20 in Sgr, says Event Coordinator*

Abid Bashir

Srinagar, May 23 (KNO): Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha Tuesday said that Kashmir is no more the land of hartals, school closures and separatist activities while security agencies have succeeded to a great extent to destroy the “terror ecosystem.” He said the primary focus of the J&K administration since the past three years has been on four P’s—Peace, Progress, Prosperity and the People first.

Addressing the press conference at Raj Bhawan here, the LG as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said that at present people of J&K are reaping the benefits of real democracy for the first time in the past seven decades. “Three-tier Panchayat Raj System has been established for the first time to take governance to the grassroots level. People are enjoying the peaceful atmosphere in J&K,” he said.

The LG said that Kashmir is no more the land of hartals, school closures and separatist activities. “Business is flourishing with each passing day. Shops remain open every day as hartals have become a part of history. Children are attending schools and colleges every day. Youth are pursuing their careers in higher studies. Separatist activities have come to an end forever,” he said. “As far as the terror ecosystem, the security grid has succeeded to destroy it to a large extent.”

Expressing gratitude to the Prime Minister Narendera Modi for choosing Srinagar for the meeting of Third Tourism Working group of G-20, the LG said that the event will help boost the tourism potential of J&K that includes eco-tourism, film tourism and green tourism. “I am hopeful that the representatives of foreign countries that are part of G-20 event in Srinagar will help lift the negative travel advisories imposed on J&K by some foreign countries. I am glad to see that the representatives of some foreign countries who have imposed travel advisory on J&K, are also participating in the Srinagar event,” the LG said.

He said that the UT administration has been focusing on four P’s since the past four years that entails–“Peace, Progress, Prosperity and Peoples first.” “We are opening up 300 new destinations to promote film tourism,” he said.

To a query since administration hopes to see 20 million tourist arrivals in the ensuing year, whether J&K lacks the proper infrastructure including hotels to accommodate the guests, the LG said: “We are upgrading the tourist infrastructure at a great pace. In the next two years, world class hotels will come up. We are auctioning the land to see some five star hotels in Srinagar and Jammu,” he said, as per KNO.

On upgrading the transport system in Srinagar, he said from the month of August, E-buses will ply in Srinagar and Jammu. Replying to the query about high air-fares, the LG said that the administration is aware of the issue and will soon streamline the air-fare. “This has happened as Go-Air has stopped its operations in J&K,” he said. On press freedom in J&K and arrest of journalists, the LG said that 400 newspapers are being published in the UT. “There is absolute press freedom in the UT. Only three journalists are serving detention and anti-terror agencies are probing their case. Freedom of speech is guaranteed in the Indian constitution,” he said. Asked about Pakistan’s objection to G-20 events in Srinagar, the LG said: “Pakistan should first address the issues of food and edibles back home.” Chipping-in, the Chief Coordinator of theG-20 event, Harsh Vardhan Shringla said that Pakistan has no locus-standi to question or talk about G-20 in Srinagar. G-20 event has nothing to do with Pakistan.”—(KNO)

The UPSC Civil Services Examination is one of the most competitive exams in the world. It is conducted every year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to select officers for the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), Indian Police Service (IPS), and other Group A and B civil services.

The exam is divided into three stages: the Preliminary Examination, the Main Examination, and the Personality Test. The Preliminary Examination is a qualifying exam, while the Main Examination and the Personality Test are the deciding factors for selection.

The Preliminary Examination is a written exam that is conducted in two parts: the General Studies Paper I and the General Studies Paper II. The Main Examination is a written exam that is conducted in nine papers:

Paper I: General Studies I

Paper II: General Studies II

Paper III: General Studies III

Paper IV: General Studies IV

Paper V: Optional Subject I

Paper VI: Optional Subject II

Paper VII: Optional Subject III

Paper VIII: Optional Subject IV

Paper IX: Essay

The Personality Test is an interview conducted by a board of senior officers. The Personality Test is the most important stage of the exam, as it is the only stage where the candidates’ personality and suitability for the civil services are assessed.

The UPSC Civil Services Examination is a very tough exam, but it is also a very rewarding one. The civil services offer a great opportunity to serve the nation and make a difference in the lives of the people.

The total number of candidates scheduled in shift 1 was 87,879; in shift 2, 87,903 students appeared and in the third shift which was organised in 458 centres, 89,466 students took the exam.

According to UGC chairman professor M. Jagadesh Kumar the first day attendance of CUET-UG was 76 per cent, a significant jump from last year which was around 62 per cent.

In two per cent of the centres (approximately 12 out of 450), the exam started later than scheduled but was successfully completed. The exam started late due to a couple of reasons, such as power fluctuations in some centres and, in others, students needing to follow staggered entry, he added.

According to the UGC, the students were informed in the admit cards to enter the centre in a staggered manner. “But in a few centres, since they came late, there was crowding and subsequent delay in the start of the exam. We request the students to come staggered to avoid this kind of situation. We have now taken administrative measures to prevent such situations in the future. In many cities, we have also taken help from the traffic police to minimize traffic jams around the centres,” Kumar added.

He said, “We have also provided basic amenities like water, refreshments, and covered shelters, waiting areas for the candidates and their parents, guardians. Candidates and their parents were also regularly informed about the steps taken and the exam start status in the centres where there was a delay in starting the test.

“We will continue to take measures to provide a better experience to the students sitting for CUET-UG.”

For the second phase (May 25-28), the National Testing Agency and the UGC are working to provide admit cards by the May 22nd late night or May 23. They will announce the city information slips for the third phase ( May 29 – June 2) on May 23.
