Mosques Lead Anti-Drug Crusade in Anantnag; Religious Call Amplifies Police Crackdown on Narcotics

Anantnag, Apr 22: In a powerful community-led push against the drug menace, mosques across Anantnag district echoed a strong call for a “war against drugs,” urging people to shun narcotics and help eradicate illegal cultivation.

During congregational gatherings and through loudspeaker announcements, Imams and mosque committees appealed to the general public to actively participate in the “war against drugs” and strictly refrain from engaging in or supporting any form of illegal crop cultivation, particularly narcotic substances such as cannabis and opium poppy.

The announcements emphasized the social, moral, and legal consequences of drug abuse and illicit cultivation, urging families and community members to remain vigilant and report any such activities to the authorities. The religious leaders also highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in safeguarding the youth and preserving the social fabric of the district.

J&K Police have appreciated this proactive and responsible role played by the religious institutions, terming it as a strong example of police-public partnership. Such coordinated efforts are expected to significantly contribute towards the success of anti-drug campaigns and the eradication of illegal cultivation in the region. (JKNS)

Private Schools Warned Against Forcing Costly Books; FFRC Cracks Down on Profiteering

Committee directs strict adherence to NCERT curriculum; violation may lead to de-recognition

Srinagar, Apr 22: The Fee Fixation and Regulation Committee (FFRC) of Jammu and Kashmir has issued a strict circular directing private schools not to compel parents to purchase expensive books from private publishers, warning of stern action against violations.

As per the circular issued by April 17, 2026, as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, complaints have been received that some schools are forcing parents to buy books costing around ₹3500, allegedly in nexus with private publishers to gain monetary benefits. The committee observed that such practices amount to profiteering and place an undue financial burden on parents.

The FFRC reiterated that as per guidelines of affiliating bodies including CBSE and JKBOSE, only NCERT-prescribed books are part of the approved curriculum, and private schools have no authority to enforce the purchase of additional costly material.

It further directed all private schools to strictly comply with these norms and submit compliance reports, failing which action including de-recognition may be initiated against institutions found violating the orders. — (KNC)

JKBOSE NMMS 2025–26: Previous Year Question Papers Released for Class 9 Students – Check Details & Download PDF

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has issued an important circular regarding the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) Examination for the academic session 2025–26. This update is especially significant for students currently studying in Class IX in government schools who have applied for the NMMS scholarship.

According to the latest notification, JKBOSE has uploaded previous years’ question papers on its official website to assist students in their preparation. This move aims to provide better resources and improve exam readiness among candidates preparing for this prestigious scholarship exam.

JKBOSE NMMS 2025–26 Circular Highlights

The circular issued by JKBOSE clearly outlines key information for students, educators, and school authorities. The board has emphasized the importance of practicing previous years’ question papers to enhance preparation strategies.

Here are the major highlights:

  • Previous years’ NMMS question papers are now available online
  • Students of Class IX (Government Schools) can access these resources
  • Papers are uploaded on the official JKBOSE website
  • Available under the dedicated “Scholarship” section
  • Schools instructed to spread awareness among eligible students

This initiative is expected to help students understand the exam pattern, difficulty level, and types of questions asked in the NMMS examination.

What is NMMS Scholarship?

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMS) is a centrally sponsored scheme aimed at supporting meritorious students from economically weaker sections. The scholarship helps reduce dropout rates at the secondary stage by providing financial assistance.

Under this scheme:

  • Around 1 lakh scholarships are awarded annually across India
  • Selected students receive ₹12,000 per year from Class 9 to 12
  • The exam is conducted at the state level by education boards like JKBOSE
  • It includes two papers: Mental Ability Test (MAT) and Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

The NMMS exam is highly competitive, making preparation strategies crucial for success.

Why Previous Year Question Papers Matter

JKBOSE’s decision to upload previous years’ papers is a major boost for aspirants. Practicing these papers can significantly improve performance.

Benefits include:

1. Understanding Exam Pattern
Students get familiar with MAT and SAT sections, marking scheme, and question types.

2. Time Management
Regular practice helps in improving speed and accuracy during the actual exam.

3. Identifying Important Topics
Repeated questions or topics help students focus on high-weightage areas.

4. Boosting Confidence
Solving real exam papers reduces anxiety and builds exam confidence.

Experts always recommend solving at least 5–10 years of previous question papers for competitive exams like NMMS.

Instructions for Schools and Authorities

The JKBOSE circular also provides directions to school authorities and education officers to ensure effective dissemination of information.

  • Chief Education Officers (CEOs) acting as District Nodal Officers have been instructed to circulate this information widely
  • Heads of Institutions (HOIs) must ensure students access and utilize these question papers
  • Schools are encouraged to guide students in using these resources for preparation

This collaborative effort between schools and authorities aims to maximize student participation and success in the NMMS examination.

Eligibility Criteria for NMMS 2025–26

To appear in the NMMS exam, students must meet certain eligibility conditions:

  • Must be studying in Class 8 (for application stage) in a government or government-aided school
  • Must have secured at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) in Class 7
  • Family income should not exceed ₹3.5 lakh per annum

Students selected through the exam continue to receive scholarship benefits till Class 12, provided they meet academic requirements.

NMMS Exam Pattern 2025–26

Understanding the exam structure is key to cracking NMMS.

The exam consists of two sections:

1. Mental Ability Test (MAT)

  • Tests logical reasoning and analytical skills
  • Includes questions on analogy, classification, series, etc.

2. Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT)

  • Covers subjects like Mathematics, Science, and Social Science
  • Based on Class 7 and 8 syllabus

Each paper:

  • Duration: 90 minutes
  • Marks: 90 per paper

There is no negative marking, making it important to attempt all questions.

Preparation Tips for NMMS Aspirants

With previous years’ question papers now available, students should follow a structured preparation plan.

1. Start with NCERT Books

Focus on Class 7 and 8 NCERT textbooks for core subjects.

2. Practice Daily

Solve at least one paper every week and gradually increase frequency.

3. Analyze Mistakes

Review incorrect answers to understand weak areas.

4. Focus on Reasoning Skills

MAT requires strong logical thinking, so practice reasoning questions regularly.

5. Revise Regularly

Consistent revision helps retain concepts and improves accuracy.

Importance of JKBOSE Initiative

This move by JKBOSE reflects a student-centric approach aimed at improving educational outcomes. By providing free access to previous question papers:

  • Students from rural and economically weaker backgrounds get equal opportunities
  • Preparation becomes more accessible and effective
  • Overall performance in NMMS exams is expected to improve

Such initiatives play a crucial role in strengthening the education system and promoting merit-based opportunities.

How to Download NMMS Question Papers

Students can easily access the question papers by following these steps:

  1. Visit the official JKBOSE website
  2. Navigate to the “Scholarship” section
  3. Click on NMMS resources
  4. Download previous years’ question papers

Make sure to save the PDFs and practice regularly.

PM Modi led regime has taken development to every doorstep: LG Sinha

Says crores of families who once had no roof over their heads now have their own homes; Roads have reached every village, number of airports has doubled, digital revolution has connected every section of society; Marginalised sections have bank accounts, identity, hold smart mobile phones for financial transactions

Jammu, Apr 21: Asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi led regime has taken development beyond mere statistics and has carried it to every doorstep, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said that crores of families who once had no roof over their heads now have their own homes.

Speaking at the statue unveiling ceremony of Shri Vijay Bahadur Singh, a well‑known social worker and the founder of Mahamandaleshwar Shri Bal Krishna Yati Inter College at Ghazipur, Uttar Pradesh, LG Sinha, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) said that steps taken by the PM Modi led regime have brought dignity and security in society.

“Roads have reached every village, the number of airports has doubled, the digital revolution has connected every section of society. Today the marginalised section have bank accounts, they have an identity, they hold smart mobile phones for financial transactions, and in my view this is not merely technological progress but social empowerment,” he said.

“In far‑flung regions of the country, new schools, new universities and a new education policy together have begun to build an India in which the hands of the youth hold the reins of the future. The facilities now available particularly for girls are unprecedented in our history, and the purpose of education through innovation and research is no longer merely to pass exams but to create an aware and responsible citizen,” he said.

The Lieutenant Governor said, “We have to build an India which our freedom fighters once dreamed of. In which every section and every individual will be a part of the mainstream of progress.”

“India is moving decisively towards becoming a developed nation. The goal of 2047 is not merely a date; it is a national resolve,” the Lieutenant Governor said.

Paying homage to Shri Vijay Bahadur Singh, the Lieutenant Governor that he discharged his duties without any expectation, served without any desire for fame, and built not for himself but for the coming generations.

The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that we must carry the ideals of Shri Vijay Bahadur Singh Ji, a true karma‑yogi, to every segment of society.

“I feel particularly proud that Shri Vijay Bahadur Singh Ji did not ask what Bindravan could do for him; instead, he showed what Bindravan and the Jakhania region could do for themselves. This Inter College, born of a people’s movement, is just a small symbol of his transformative work.

Shri Vijay Bahadur Singh Ji did not merely establish a college; he made a pledge, a promise to the future. In 1974, when he laid the foundation of this institution, there was no major financial support and no assurance of success. All he had was an unshakeable belief that education is the power which can change society,” the Lieutenant Governor said—(KNO)
