No Move to Drop Urdu from Tehsildar Examination, Says CM’s Advisor; Iltija Mufti Stages Sit-In, Accuses NC Govt of Attacking Language

No move to drop Urdu from Tehsildar examination, says CM’s Advisor

PDP’s Iltija Mufti stages sit-in, accuses NC Govt of attacking language

Jammu: Senior leader of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference and Chief Minister’s Advisor, Nasir Aslam Wani, on Tuesday dismissed claims regarding the removal of Urdu from the Tehsildar examination syllabus, asserting that no such decision has been taken by the government.

Responding to remarks by PDP leader Iltija Mufti, Wani, according to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) told reporters here that the concerned department had merely issued a notification inviting public objections on the subject, describing it as part of a democratic process to gather feedback before any final decision.

Wani, who was flanked by Deputy Chief Minister Surinder Choudhary, underlined the continued importance of Urdu in revenue administration. “The language remains integral to official functioning, particularly for revenue officers who are required to read and interpret documents in Urdu,” he added.

Wani clarified that no notification has been issued to remove Urdu from the syllabus or recruitment process and challenged critics to produce any such document if it exists. “Such claims only create confusion among the public,” he said.

Wani maintained that while opposition parties have the right to question the government, they should refrain from misleading people. He reiterated the government’s commitment to retaining Urdu within the administrative system.

Questioning the urgency of the issue being raised, Wani said attempts to turn it into a controversy were unwarranted and urged the media to present the government’s position while reporting.

He added that the government, still early in its tenure, requires time to implement its agenda and said its performance would ultimately be judged by the people during elections.

Referring to past decisions, Wani remarked that earlier approaches had long-term implications for the region and urged opposition leaders to adopt a more constructive stance while raising public issues.

Earlier in the day PDP leader Iltija Mufti staged a sit-in protest along with party workers in Srinagar against the government’s decision to remove Urdu as a mandatory qualification for the Tehsildar examination and revenue services recruitment rules.

Addressing media persons during the protest, Iltija Mufti, as strongly criticised the National Conference (NC)-led government, accusing it of attacking language, identity and cultural heritage by removing Urdu from official recruitment criteria.

She said Urdu is deeply embedded in the region’s social and administrative framework and cannot be separated from its cultural existence.

“We have come here because Urdu is being removed. The National Conference has attacked Urdu language. Urdu is a part of our faith and culture. Urdu is a part of our civilisation,” she said.

She alleged that the ruling party was failing on governance and public representation, claiming that elected representatives were not addressing ground issues.

Iltija Mufti said Urdu serves as a unifying language across diverse communities in Jammu and Kashmir, including Kashmiri, Gujri, Pahari and Punjabi speakers and warned that removing it from administrative requirements would weaken institutional continuity and cultural cohesion.

She alleged that the government’s decision aligns with broader political designs and demanded immediate rollback of the order—(KNO)

This latest notice is highly beneficial for schools and students who were unable to submit their registration returns earlier within the prescribed timeline.

As per the official notification, JKBOSE has decided to reopen the portal from 28 April 2026 to 12 May 2026, allowing affiliated institutions and schools to submit the pending Registration Returns of left-out candidates who were on the rolls of Class 9th during the session 2025-27 and are presently studying in Class 10th.

  • Currently studying in Class 10th
  • Whose Registration Return was not submitted earlier

If your registration was already submitted previously, no action is required.

Why Registration Return is Important?

Many students and parents do not fully understand the importance of Registration Return in JKBOSE. It is one of the most essential academic formalities because it officially records the student’s details with the board.

Importance Includes:

1. Official Board Record

It creates an official record of the student with JKBOSE.

2. Future Examination Eligibility

Without registration, students may face problems while appearing in Class 10th board exams.

3. Accurate Academic Data

Student name, parentage, date of birth, school details, and category are entered officially.

4. Smooth Admit Card Generation

Registered students receive future board examination documents without issues.

5. Avoidance of Penalties

Timely registration helps avoid late fees and complications.

Why Did JKBOSE Extend the Date?

The Board mentioned that some schools did not submit the Registration Returns on time. This may happen due to:

  • Technical problems during online submission
  • Delay in document collection
  • Clerical mistakes
  • Administrative oversight
  • Incomplete student records
  • Internet connectivity issues in remote areas

To protect students’ interests, JKBOSE reopened the link.

Official Website for Submission

The online submission facility will remain available on the official JKBOSE website:

https://jkbose.jk.gov.in

Schools should only use the official portal and avoid third-party websites.

Step-by-Step Process for Schools

Parents Should:

  • Contact school administration immediately
  • Confirm registration status
  • Ask for receipt copy
  • Verify student details entered online
  • Ensure fee submission

This small effort can prevent future problems.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Many schools make avoidable mistakes. These include:

  • Waiting till last date
  • Wrong spelling of student names
  • Incorrect DOB
  • Fee unpaid but form incomplete
  • Missing final submit option
  • Duplicate registration entries

Avoiding these ensures smooth approval.

What Happens If You Miss This Deadline?

This is a very important question. If schools fail again, students may face:

  • Additional penalty in future
  • Delayed board records
  • Problems in Class 10th registration
  • Difficulty in examination forms
  • Administrative delays

Hence, schools should treat this extension as the final opportunity.

Relief for Rural and Remote Students

Students in remote areas of Jammu Division often face delays due to infrastructure and communication issues. This extension gives equal opportunity to such students and ensures they remain academically secure.

JKBOSE’s Student-Friendly Decision

This decision reflects JKBOSE’s flexible and student-focused approach. Instead of punishing students for institutional delay, the Board reopened the portal.

Such decisions help:

  • Reduce stress among families
  • Protect academic careers
  • Maintain fairness
  • Improve enrollment records

How Schools Can Complete Work Faster

Schools can speed up submission by:

  • Creating student checklist
  • Verifying documents in advance
