Traffic Plan and Advisory for March 25, 2025

Traffic Advisory and Road Conditions for Jammu-Srinagar Highway (NH-44) – March 25, 2025

The Traffic Police Headquarters, J&K, has issued an important traffic advisory regarding the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) and other key roads in the region. Travelers are urged to take note of the latest road conditions and follow the guidelines to ensure a safe journey.

Road Conditions and Observations (March 23-24, 2025)

During the last 24 hours, slow movement was reported on NH-44 due to the following reasons:

  • Breakdown of five Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMVs).
  • Single-lane traffic at Dalwas, Peeda, Mehad, Marog, and Kishtwari Pather.
  • Ongoing four-lane construction work on the highway.

Advisory for Passengers and Goods Carriers

  1. Daytime Travel Recommended: Passengers and Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) operators should undertake their journey during daylight hours to avoid risks of shooting stones between Ramban and Banihal.
  2. Perishable Goods and Livestock Transport: HMV and LMV goods carriers transporting perishable items or livestock must comply with advisories issued by the Traffic Police Headquarters due to single-lane restrictions and poor road conditions.
  3. Overloading Restrictions: HMV operators are strictly advised to avoid overloading and ensure their vehicles are in proper condition before traveling. Sufficient fuel must be carried for the journey.
  4. Dhar Road Route for HMVs: Only HMVs with six or ten tyres will be permitted to ply through Dhar Road.
  5. Avoid Unnecessary Stops: Commuters must refrain from making unnecessary stops, particularly between Ramban and Banihal, as this area is prone to landslides and shooting stones.

Traffic Plan and Advisory for March 25, 2025

  • LMVs (Passenger/Private Cars): Allowed to travel from both Jammu and Srinagar directions on NH-44.
  • HMVs (Load Carriers): Permitted to move from Qazigund (Navyug Tunnel) towards Jammu, subject to road conditions. TCU Jammu and Srinagar will coordinate with TCU Ramban to assess the road status before permitting movement.

Security Forces Convoy Movement

Security Forces are requested to adhere to the traffic advisory to avoid congestion between Nashree and Banihal. On March 25, 2025, they are advised to travel from Srinagar to Jammu only after confirming the road status with TCU Ramban.

Status of Other Roads

  1. Kishtwar-Sinthan-Anantnag NH-244: Closed as per the advisory issued by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Kokernag.
  2. Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road (SSG Road): Remains closed due to snow accumulation.
  3. Mughal Road: Closed due to heavy snow, as per the order of the District Magistrate, Poonch.
