The past 24 hours have witnessed light to moderate rainfall across many places in Jammu & Kashmir, with light snowfall over higher reaches. As the region transitions through February, varying weather conditions are expected over the coming days.

February 20:

• The day will remain generally cloudy with intermittent light to moderate rain and snow at many locations.
• Plains of Jammu may experience light to moderate rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds at isolated places.
• Higher reaches of Chenab Valley and South Kashmir could witness moderate to heavy snowfall, accumulating between 7 to 12 inches.
• North and Central Kashmir’s higher altitudes may receive light snowfall, with an estimated accumulation of 3 to 6 inches.

February 21-23:

• Partly cloudy skies are expected during these days, with no major weather disturbances anticipated.

February 24-25:

• Generally cloudy conditions with light rain and snowfall at scattered places across the region.

February 26-28:

• The period is expected to be generally cloudy, with light to moderate rain and snowfall at several locations.

Originally, the UPSC CSE prelims 2025 registration deadline was February 11 which was first extended to February 18.

“The last date for submission for CS(P)‐2025 & IFoS(P)‐2025 has been further extended till 21.02.2025 (06:00 PM). Further, the Correction window of 7 days shall now be available from 22.02.2025 to 28.02.2025,” the recent notification reads.

UPSC will fill around 979 vacancies in various services through CSE 2025.

It is mandatory for all candidates to have the One-Time Registration (OTR) profile created before applying for the exam. The OTR profile is valid for a lifetime, and those who have created the profile can directly fill out the application form.

About the UPSC CSE exam 2025

The UPSC Civil Services (Prelims) examination 2025 will be conducted on May 25, 2025. The exam has two parts – Prelims and Mains (written examination and interview). The detailed scheme and syllabus of the examination are available on the commission’s website.

Objective-type questions will have negative marking for incorrect answers.

UPSC CSE 2025: Eligibility criteria, age limit, application fee

The minimum educational qualification to appear for UPSC CSE 2025, is a graduation degree or its equivalent qualification.

Candidates whose graduation degree exam results have not been announced can apply provisionally. If they qualify for interview/personality test, they have to prove that they have passed the qualifying examination.

Candidates with Medical, Dental, Veterinary Science and equivalent degrees must submit proof of internship completion.

Candidates with Medical or any other professional qualifications who have yet to complete the internship will be allowed to appear for UPSC CSE 2025 provisionally.

During the interview, they need to submit the degree certificate and proof of internship completion.

On August 1, 2025, the lower age limit for candidates can be 21, and the upper age limit can be 32. The upper age limit will be relaxed for reserve category candidates.

The application fee is ₹100. Female/SC/ST/Persons with Benchmark Disability category candidates are exempted from paying the application fee.

Unreserved category candidates are allowed six attempts for the UPSC CSE. OBC candidates can attempt the exam nine times.

There is no limit to the number of attempts for SC or ST candidates.

Water crisis threat looms large in J&K, first 50 days of 2025 record 83% deficit rainfall

Ready to tackle any situation, contingency plan devised, says Jal Shakti Department

Srinagar, Feb 19 (KNO): In the first 50-days of the year 2025 Jammu and Kashmir has witnessed a rainfall deficit of 83 percent thus posing a risk of severe water scarcity in the coming months.

According to the official data accessed by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), from January 1, 2025 to February 19, 2025, J&K has recorded a rainfall of just 29.8 mm against the normal precipitation of 175.8 mm. i.e. only the 17% precipitation.

Kargil in Ladakh has recorded zero percent precipitation in 2025 with the data revealing that the district has witnessed 100 per cent deficit as against the normal rainfall of 18.5 mm.

In Jammu and Kashmir, Kathua has witnessed the highest deficiency with 98 percent as a rainfall of only 3.6 mm was recorded against the normal of 152.4 mm.

Jammu and Udhampur stations have recorded a deficit rainfall of 95 per cent each in the last 50 days while 92 per cent deficiency was recorded in Samba district.

Ramban and Kulgam districts have recorded a deficiency of 90 per cent each, the data shows. It adds that Shopian and Reasi have witnessed the deficit rainfall of 88 per cent while Doda and Budgam districts have seen the deficiency of 87 per cent and 86 per cent respectively.

Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, has recorded the deficit rainfall of 85 per cent in the last 50 days while Anantnag, Bandipora and Pulwama have recorded the deficiency of above 80 per cent rainfall during the period.

The other stations including Baramulla, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Kupwara, Poonch and Rajouri districts have recorded a deficit rainfall in between 72-78 per cent.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said that J&K is staring at a water crisis this year, and he will be reviewing the measures the Jal Shakti (PHE) Department intends to take to address the situation.

A top official in the Jal Shakti Department (JSD) while talking to KNO said that the department is ready to tackle any such situation. “We have already formulated a contingency plan if such a situation arises,” he added.

The official also appealed to the people to use the water judiciously and not to waste it to ensure that all the people get adequate drinking water facilities. “Besides, if the dry spell persists, the department will ensure that the people don’t face difficulties,” he said—(KNO)

Four More NCDC Alumni Secure Prestigious Teaching Positions

Srinagar: The National Child Development Council (NCDC) announced that four more of its alumni have been placed in prestigious educational institutions.

According to official figures, Aminath Shana Shirin (76th batch), Anila E Jose (71st batch), Remya Rajamohanan (68th batch) and Sreedevi K V (52nd batch) have secured prestigious teaching positions in the schools.

As per NCDC statement, these elites have been trained under the supervision of Evaluator & Admission Incharges of NCDC Montessori Teacher Training Courses.

Importantly, National Child Development Council (NCDC), which works for the benefit of women and children is an independent organization responsible for the delivery of quality education in India.
