Srinagar, 28 Dec:  The LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation is delighted to announce the launch of its Scholarships on an All India Basis, aimed at supporting students from economically weaker families. The scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to those who have successfully passed Std. X/XII Diploma or equivalent examinations with a minimum of 60% or equivalent grade in the Academic Year 2022-23.

The foundation is offering 20 General Scholarships per Divisional Centre of LIC, with 10 each for boys and girls. These scholarships are intended for students pursuing higher studies in diverse fields such as Medicine, Engineering, Graduation in any discipline, Diploma Courses, or Integrated Courses. Vocational courses through Government Recognized Colleges/Institutes or Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) are also covered under this scheme.

In addition, the LIC Golden Jubilee Foundation is providing 10 Special Scholarships exclusively for girl children per Divisional Area of LIC. These scholarships are earmarked for those pursuing studies in Class XI & XII, Diploma, or Intermediate under the 10+2 pattern.

UGC Declares MPhil as Non-Recognized, Directs Universities to Halt Admissions for 2023-24

The University Grants Commission (UGC) on December 27 directed the universities in the country to stop taking admissions for the MPhil course of the 2023-24 session, stating that it is not a recognised degree.
UGC Secretary Manish Joshi also advised students not to join any MPhil programme offered by universities in India.

“It has come to the notice of the UGC that a few universities are inviting fresh applications for the MPhil (Master of Philosophy) programme. In this regard, it is to bring to the notice that the MPhil degree is not a recognized degree,” news agency PTI quoted UGC Secretary Manish Joshi as saying.

“The Regulation No. 14 of the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedures for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022 clearly states that higher educational institutions shall not offer any MPhil programme,” Joshi said, adding that “students are advised not to take admission in any MPhil programme”.

140 private universities
Several new varieties are coming up across the country and many of them offer courses that are not recognised by the UGC. Earlier on December 24, the Ministry of Education said up to 140 private universities had been established across the country during the last five years, with Gujarat being the leading state, followed by Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.

According to the Ministry of Education statistics, 28 private universities have been established in Gujarat during the last five years while 15 universities were set up in Maharashtra.

Madhya Pradesh and Karnataka welcomed 14 and 10 universities respectively during the period.

“Private University is established by an Act passed by the state legislature concerned and Notification issued by the state government concerned,” a senior education ministry official said.

“The name of a private university is included in the list of universities by the University Grants Commission (UGC) as per Section 2(f) of the UGC Act, 1956, on receipt of the copies of the Act and notification from the university,” he said.

The Income Tax, Mumbai is hiring eligible job aspirants for various posts under the sports quota. The online application process for Income Tax recruitment 2023 has commenced at incometaxmumbai.gov.in and will go on till January 19, 2024.

According to the notification, which was released on December 22, a total of 291 vacancies will be filled for Inspector, Stenographer Grade-II, Tax Assistant (TA), Multi Tasking Staff (MTS), and Canteen Attendant (CA).

Candidates will be selected as per the order of preference contained in the Department of Personnel & Training (CoPT).

Eligibility Criteria

Aspirants applying for MTS and CA posts should possess a matriculation certificate. Additionally, meeting the prescribed age limit is a prerequisite. Check the table below for detailed information on the age limit and educational qualification criteria for each post.

The applicants who are applying for the Inspector posts should be aged between 18 to 30 years and should have graduated from a recognized university/college/institute or equivalent qualification.

The candidates who are applying for Stenographer Grade-II should be between 18 to 27 years. They should have done Class 12th or equivalent from a recognized board or university.

The applicants who are applying for Tax Assistant (TA) should be aged between 18 to 27 and should have graduated from a recognized university/college/institute or equivalent qualification.

The candidates who are applying for Multi Tasking Staff (MTS) must be aged between 18 to 25. They should have done Matriculation or equivalent from a recognized board or university.

The applicants who are applying for Canteen Attendant (CA) must be aged between 18 to 25.

The vacancies available for Inspector, Stenographer Grade-II, Tax Assistant (TA), Multi Tasking Staff (MTS), and Canteen Attendant (CA) are 14, 18, 119, 137, and 3, respectively.
