Amit Shah Blames Article 370 for 45,000 Deaths in Jammu and Kashmir

Article 370 responsible for 45000 killings in J&K: Amit Shah

Says this article was temporary, only BJP showed its will to remove it forever; Separatism, terrorism in J&K was deep rooted in Article; never stated Article 370 roll back will end separatism, terrorism completely; Shama Prasada Mukherji’s slogan of Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan, Ek Nishan was never a political slogan, how can a country have two flags, two constitutions

Abid Bashir

New Delhi, Dec 06 (KNO): Union Home Minister Amit Shah Wednesday said that Article 370 was responsible for 45000 killings in J&K and only BJP showed its will to remove something that was “temporary in nature.”

“The Article 370 was responsible for the killing of 45000 people. I am stating this with full responsibility on the floor of the house,” Shah said while replying to the discussion on two bills— Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023 and Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Bill, 2023 introduced by him in the Parliament on December 5, as per news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

He said that everybody was convinced with the fact that Article 370 was a “temporary provision” in the constitution but nobody even took a step to remove it. “On August 5, 2019, Prime Minister Narendera Modi led government decided to remove this temporary article once for all,” Shah said amid thumping of tables by his party colleagues. Replying to a point raised by some opposition leaders that BJP by removing the Article 370 did “Vada Khilafi”, Shah replied: “Koi wada khilafi nahi…..we did what others failed to do in past 70 years.”

Stating that he never made any comment like by rolling back the Article 370, separatism and terrorism will completely end in J&K. “I stick to what I stated here. The fact is that I stated rolling back the Article 370 will bring down separatism and terrorism to all time low. And this has happened,” he said, adding that “We have rolled out zero terror plan and I am hopeful that the BJP government will come again in power in 2024 and by 2026 zero terror plan will be implemented in full.”

About BJP founder Shyama Prasad Mukherji’s slogan of Ek Vidhan, Ek Pradhan, Ek Nishan, the Home Minister said that this actually wasn’t a political slogan but what a nation is all about. “How can a country have two flags and two constitutions….,” Shah asked. He said earlier, the Assembly in J&K was for six years, but now it will be for five years as in other parts of the country. The Home Minister said that there was time when unfurling of tri-colour was nearly impossible at Lal Chowk, Srinagar but today, every house in J&K unfurls Tiranga and every religious festival is celebrated with fervour at Lal Chowk—(KNO)

Pertinently the Government of India notified a New Central Sector Scheme for Industrial Development of Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir on 19.02.2021 with an outlay of Rs. 28,400 Cr to boost industrial development.

“Various initiatives have been taken by the Government of Jammu and Kashmir “for making the UT an investor friendly destination,” the document said.

The Industries and Commerce Department in its recently released compendium revealed that investments have come for the establishment of 2540 units in Jammu and Kashmir in first six months of the current fiscal. Omar Abdullah: Article 370 Abrogation Leaves No One in J&K Happy

No one in J&K happy with Art 370 abrogation: Omar Abdullah

Says people will show ‘real sentiment’ through ballot, alleges fixed game by BJP, EC on elections in UT

Jahangeer Ganaie

Pulwama, Dec 06 (KNO): Former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said no one in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir was happy with the decision to abrogate the special status of the erstwhile State.

As per the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), speaking to the media after addressing party workers in Pulwama Town, the National Conference vice president said that the foundation of the relationship between J&K and India was based on the special status provided by Article 370 and 35A. With their abrogation, the BJP has harmed this relationship, he said.

“They (BJP) have done it without considering the sentiments of lakhs of people in J&K. The promise made to the people here wasn’t made by a single leader; it was made by a country. It was a bond between a country and a State that has been damaged,” he remarked.

Omar said the “real sentiment” of the people would be evident when elections would be conducted. “Let them conduct elections, people will show them whether they are happy with the decision or not, but the truth is that people of J&K and Ladakh aren’t happy with the decision. The people of Ladakh have already shown it; the people of J&K also showed it in DDC elections and will prove it again whenever assembly elections are held,” he said.

Abdullah criticised the Central government and the Election Commission (EC), accusing them of playing a fixed game when it comes to elections. “Depriving people of their right to choose their representatives would lead to destruction, as people have been denied this right since 2014,” he said.

“When you ask the government, they say the decision is to be taken by the EC. When the EC is asked about it, they say they need to consult the government first. It is evident both are hiding behind each other, while the people of J&K have to bear the consequences,” he added.

Omar also mentioned the Prime Minister’s promises of removing distance from Delhi and the hearts of the people saying no such steps were taken on the ground.

Regarding the remarks of a DMK leader about ‘Gaumutra States’, the former CM suggested that one should not hurt the sentiments of others. “We must respect each other’s religion,” he said.

In his address to the workers, the NC leader said that the BJP has failed to fulfill promises made during the abrogation of Article 370. “They made promises for 24×7 power supply through various types of meters, which have proven ineffective on the ground, especially with frequent power cuts in both urban and rural areas,” he said.

Abdullah also criticised the BJP for “failing to provide jobs to the youth and for not initiating new industries, hospitals, universities or colleges”—(KNO)
