Budgam girl qualifies District Litigation Officer exam in J&K

Yazan Ul Yasra, a young female advocate from Farashgund Daharmunah village in Budgam district, has secured an overall rank of 3 in the District Litigation Officer exam in Jammu and Kashmir.

Yasra did her schooling locally and passed her 10th class with flying colors. She then went on to study 11th and 12th at Iqbal Memorial Bemina, Srinagar, where she scored 85% marks in the medical stream.

Despite her family’s wishes for her to become a doctor, Yasra had always wanted to be a lawyer. She enrolled in BA, LLB at the School of Law, University of Kashmir, and after graduating, she appeared in the Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). She qualified with 3rd rank from Kashmir and was admitted to the prestigious Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law Patiala, Punjab.

After graduating from law school, Yasra practiced law at the District Court Srinagar for three years. However, she always dreamed of becoming a government officer, so she decided to appear in judiciary competitive exams.

Yasra’s journey to success was not easy. In the 9th semester of her LLB, her father was diagnosed with a life-threatening disease. By the time she was in her 10th semester, his condition had deteriorated and he passed away. Yasra was devastated by her father’s death, but she was determined to live his dream of seeing her become an officer.

Yasra did not give up after she was dropped in the Prosecuting Officer exam by a margin of few marks in October 2022. Instead, she continued her hard work and started to prepare for the District Litigation Officer exam, which she qualified with flying colors.

Yasra’s success is a testament to her determination and hard work. She is an inspiration to all those who aspire to achieve great things. In her message to aspirants, she said that success does not come overnight, but it comes at the right time. She also said that there is no substitute for hard work, and that one should do rigorous hard work to achieve their goals.

Yasra is a role model for young women in Kashmir. She has shown that it is possible to achieve great things, even in the face of adversity. She is an inspiration to all those who dream of making a difference in the world

Amid protests, KPDCL says no alternative to smart metering, process to continue

Protests will yield nothing; meters to be installed everywhere; users to get power usage directly on their mobiles: MD KPDCL

Raja Syed Rather / Rehan Qayoom Mir

Srinagar, July 17 (KNO): As the protests against installation of smart meters continue in various parts of Srinagar, the Kashmir Power Development Corporation (KPDCL) Ltd Monday said there is no alternative to smart metering and that the process will continue come what may.

On Monday, many parts of Srinagar including Batamaloo, Habakadal and a few more areas of the city witnessed protests against the installation of smart meters. However, KPDCL reiterated that the process will continue and that the protests were going to yield nothing.

Talking to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Managing Director KPDCL Baseer ul Haq Chowdhary said that there is no fun of taking to streets against installation of the smart meters. “People must understand that the move is aimed to provide uninterrupted and quality power to them. The process won’t stop and every area will be covered in a phased manner,” he said.

He said that there is no alternative to smart meters. “These meters will help individuals become smarter. They will get accurate and direct readings on their mobile phones and other smart devices,” the MD KPDCL said.

About the rates per unit of electricity, the MD said that in J&K rates are far less than what they see in other states of the country. “In fact, we have the lowest rate per unit of electricity in J&K,” he said.

On frequent power cuts in some areas, the MD KPDCL said that some interruptions in the power supply may be taking place due to repair work or upgradation of the system. “Curtailment is must as the system is frequently being upgraded and prepared for winters. If no upgrading is done, we will not be able to function,” he said. Earlier, KNO had reported that power theft due to hooking in Kashmir had come to an end in the Valley after installation of smart meters and laying of cables. KPDCL officials have stated that in the areas where smart meters and cables were laid, power theft had come to zero. As per KPDCL, in the first phase, 55000 smart meters installed were converted into pre-paid mode. “Under pre-paid mode, people will pay the amount as per the power usage. The consumers can check usage on an application on their mobiles phones,” said a KPDCL official—(KNO)
