This development is significant for aspirants preparing for one of the most competitive law-related recruitment examinations conducted in Jammu and Kashmir.

Importance of the Prosecuting Officer Examination

The Prosecuting Officer examination is among the most sought-after competitive examinations for law graduates in Jammu and Kashmir. The post falls under the Home Department and offers candidates an opportunity to work in the criminal justice system as government prosecutors.

A Prosecuting Officer plays a crucial role in assisting courts, representing the state in criminal matters, coordinating with investigation agencies, and ensuring proper legal procedures during prosecution. The position carries professional prestige, job security, and opportunities for career growth in the legal and administrative framework of the Union Territory.

Because of these factors, thousands of law graduates compete for a limited number of posts every recruitment cycle.

Recruitment Notification and Examination Background

The Prosecuting Officer recruitment process for 2025-26 was initiated through Notification No. 13-PSC (DR-P) of 2025 issued on November 10, 2025.

The recruitment attracted a large number of applicants from across Jammu and Kashmir. Candidates possessing a Bachelor’s degree in Law from recognized institutions applied for the examination process conducted by JKPSC.

The recruitment process generally consists of multiple stages, including:

  1. Preliminary Examination
  2. Main Examination
  3. Interview/Personality Test

The preliminary examination serves as a screening stage, while the Main Examination determines the merit and selection prospects of candidates.

The announcement of the Main Examination schedule marks a crucial milestone in the recruitment process.

Why the Main Examination Matters

The Main Examination is the most critical stage in the selection process for Prosecuting Officers. Unlike the preliminary stage, which usually consists of objective-type questions, the Main Examination tests candidates’ in-depth understanding of legal principles, drafting skills, interpretation of laws, analytical ability, and practical application of legal concepts.

Performance in the Main Examination significantly influences the final merit ranking of candidates.

The examination typically assesses candidates in subjects related to:

  • Constitutional Law
  • Criminal Law
  • Criminal Procedure
  • Evidence Law
  • Legal Drafting
  • Special Acts
  • Civil Procedure
  • Jurisprudence
  • Professional Ethics

Candidates who qualify the Main Examination are subsequently called for interviews or personality assessments.

Expected Examination Pattern

Although the detailed schedule has not yet been released, previous patterns and available recruitment details suggest that the examination may follow a descriptive format designed to assess legal understanding and writing ability.

Candidates are generally expected to answer essay-type questions, legal problem-solving scenarios, drafting exercises, and analytical questions related to statutory interpretation.

The Main Examination is expected to test:

  • Clarity of legal concepts
  • Interpretation of statutes
  • Practical legal reasoning
  • Court procedure understanding
  • Drafting and pleading skills
  • Judgment-writing ability

Law graduates preparing for the examination are advised to strengthen both substantive and procedural law subjects.

Subjects Likely to Be Included

Based on previous examination trends and legal recruitment standards, the following subjects may form part of the Main Examination syllabus:

Constitutional Law

Candidates are expected to understand the framework of the Constitution of India, fundamental rights, directive principles, separation of powers, judicial review, and constitutional remedies.

Criminal Law

Topics from criminal jurisprudence, penal provisions, offences against the state, offences against property, and criminal liability remain crucial.

Criminal Procedure

Procedural aspects relating to investigation, arrest, bail, trial procedures, and appellate mechanisms are generally emphasized.

Indian Evidence Law

Questions relating to admissibility of evidence, burden of proof, witnesses, presumptions, and documentary evidence are expected.

Legal Drafting and Pleading

Candidates may be tested on preparation of legal documents, charge sheets, complaints, notices, and prosecution-related drafting.

Special Laws

Important special enactments, including anti-corruption laws, narcotics laws, cyber laws, and child protection laws, may also be included.

Preparation Strategy for Candidates

No Immediate Plan for Online Classes in J&K, Says Sakina Itoo

Sakina Itoo Rules Out Immediate Shift to Online Classes in J&K

Srinagar, May 14: Jammu and Kashmir Education Minister Sakina Itoo on Thursday ruled out any immediate move toward online classes in educational institutions, saying no such decision was under consideration at present.

Responding to questions from reporters regarding the possibility of virtual classes following Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s appeal for work-from-home and austerity measures amid fuel concerns, Itoo said there was “nothing like that” at the moment.

“There is nothing like that. Let us see,” the minister said when asked whether the government was considering shifting schools or educational institutions to online mode.

Her remarks come amid discussions triggered by the Prime Minister’s recent appeal emphasizing austerity measures and fuel conservation in view of prevailing economic and supply-related concerns.

The minister, however, did not indicate any proposal before the education department regarding suspension of physical classes or transition to online learning.

Jammu and Kashmir had extensively relied on virtual classes during the COVID-19 pandemic and weather-related disruptions in previous years, particularly in the Kashmir Valley.

At present, educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir are functioning normally. [KNT]

JKBOSE Re-Opens Registration Link for Class 9 Students of Academic Session 2025–26: Complete Details, Dates, Fees, Eligibility & Online Submission

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has officially announced the re-opening of the registration link for online submission of Registration Returns for Class 9th students for the Academic Session 2025–26. This latest notification brings relief to schools, institutions, students, and parents who were unable to complete the registration process within the previously prescribed deadlines.

The decision has been taken by JKBOSE after noticing that several affiliated academic institutions and schools failed to submit the Registration Returns of eligible students despite earlier notifications issued by the board. With this extension, schools falling under the jurisdiction of Kashmir Division, including District Kargil (UT of Ladakh), can now complete the registration formalities within the newly announced dates.

According to the official notification issued by JKBOSE, the registration portal will remain open from 20 May 2026 to 30 May 2026. Students and institutions are advised to complete the process well before the last date to avoid technical issues or late submission complications.

Overview of JKBOSE Registration Re-Opening Notification 2026

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education is one of the most important educational bodies in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. Every year, JKBOSE conducts examinations and registration processes for lakhs of students studying in government and private institutions.

The latest notification pertains specifically to students who were on the rolls of Class 9 during the Academic Session 2025–26 and are currently studying in Class 10 in JKBOSE-affiliated institutions. The board has once again opened the registration submission link to ensure that no eligible student is deprived of appearing in future examinations due to incomplete registration formalities.

The notification was issued from the New Campus Bemina Srinagar office of JKBOSE by the Registration Section and signed by the Deputy Secretary Registration, Kashmir Division.

Important Dates Announced by JKBOSE

Students, institutions, and school authorities must carefully note the following dates mentioned in the notification:

Event Date
Re-opening of Registration Link 20 May 2026
Last Date for Online Submission 30 May 2026
Notification Issue Date 12 May 2026

The board has clearly stated that the registration link shall remain active only during this period. Hence, institutions should avoid waiting until the final day.

Who Can Apply Under This Re-Opened Registration Window?

The registration facility is meant for:

  • Students who were enrolled in Class 9 during Academic Session 2025–26
  • Candidates currently studying in Class 10
  • Students studying in JKBOSE-affiliated institutions
  • Schools under Kashmir Division jurisdiction
  • Institutions including District Kargil (UT of Ladakh)

This opportunity is especially important for schools that failed to submit Registration Returns during the earlier notification periods.

Earlier Notifications Referenced by JKBOSE

The board referred to previous notifications under which institutions were earlier directed to submit Registration Returns. These include:

  1. Notification dated 08-10-2025
  2. Notification dated 10-11-2025
  3. Notification dated 01-01-2026
  4. Notification dated 03-04-2026

Despite multiple chances, several institutions reportedly failed to complete the registration process, which prompted JKBOSE to provide another opportunity.

Registration Fee Details

JKBOSE has prescribed a revised fee structure for the late registration submission process. Institutions must submit the Registration Returns along with the following payment:

Fee Component Amount
Last Applicable Fee Rs. 1075
Token Fine Rs. 1000
Total Payable Fee Rs. 2075 per candidate

The board has strictly instructed schools to submit Registration Returns only after depositing the required fee amount.

This means each student whose registration is being submitted during the re-opened window will require payment of Rs. 2075.

Why Class 9 Registration Is Important

Many students and parents often underestimate the significance of Class 9 registration with JKBOSE. However, this process is crucial because it establishes the academic identity of the student within the board system.

Without proper registration:

  • Students may face issues in appearing for Class 10 board examinations
  • Academic records may remain incomplete
  • Migration and certification processes may become difficult
  • Future examination forms could be rejected
  • Board documentation and eligibility may get affected

Thus, completing registration within the specified timeline is extremely important.

Official Website for Registration Submission

JKBOSE has informed that the online registration forms can be submitted through the official website:

https://jkbose.jk.gov.in

Schools and institutions should ensure that the information entered online is accurate and matches school records.

Below is a simplified guide for schools and institutions to complete the registration process smoothly.

Step 4: Add Student Details

Enter complete student information such as:

  • Student Name
  • Father’s Name
  • Mother’s Name
  • Date of Birth
  • Gender
  • School Details
  • Academic Information
  • Previous Examination Details

Step 5: Upload Required Documents

Upload necessary documents if required by the portal.

Step 6: Verify Information

Double-check all entered details before final submission.

Step 7: Pay Required Fee

Submit the prescribed fee of Rs. 2075 per student.

Step 8: Final Submission

After successful fee payment, submit the Registration Return online.

Step 9: Download Acknowledgement

Take a printout or save the acknowledgement receipt for future reference.

Common Mistakes Students and Schools Should Avoid

During online registration, institutions often make avoidable mistakes that later create complications. Schools should remain careful regarding the following:

Incorrect Student Names

Names must exactly match official records and documents.

Wrong Date of Birth

Incorrect DOB entries may create serious examination-related issues later.

Incomplete Fee Payment

Failure to deposit the correct fee may result in rejection.

Duplicate Entries

Schools should ensure that students are not registered multiple times.

Late Submission

Waiting until the final day can lead to technical server issues.

Impact of Registration Delays on Students

Registration delays can significantly affect students academically and administratively. Students whose Registration Returns are not submitted properly may encounter:

  • Difficulty in obtaining admit cards
  • Examination eligibility issues
  • Problems during migration
  • Delays in certification
  • Data mismatch in board records

Therefore, JKBOSE’s decision to reopen the link serves as an important relief measure.

Relief for Schools and Institutions

Several educational institutions had reportedly requested JKBOSE to reopen the registration portal due to various challenges, including:

  • Technical problems
  • Delayed documentation
  • Administrative errors
  • Internet connectivity issues in remote areas
  • Fee submission delays

The board’s latest move demonstrates flexibility and support for educational institutions.

Importance of Timely Compliance With JKBOSE Notifications

Educational institutions affiliated with JKBOSE must regularly monitor board notifications and circulars. Missing deadlines can lead to unnecessary financial burdens and penalties.

The present notification clearly shows that repeated extensions may involve:

  • Additional late fees
  • Token fines
  • Administrative pressure
  • Risk of student registration cancellation

Hence, institutions should prioritize timely compliance.

Role of Parents During Registration Process

Parents also play a crucial role in ensuring smooth registration of their children. They should:

  • Stay in touch with school authorities
  • Verify student details carefully
  • Ensure documents are complete
  • Keep fee receipts safely
  • Confirm successful submission from schools

Active parental involvement reduces chances of errors.

District Kargil Institutions Also Included

An important aspect of the notification is the inclusion of schools from District Kargil (UT of Ladakh). This ensures equal opportunity for students studying in remote and geographically challenging areas.

Educational accessibility remains a key concern in such regions, and reopening the registration portal provides much-needed support to institutions functioning there.

How JKBOSE Registration Helps Students in Future

The registration process is not merely a formality. It serves multiple long-term purposes.

Academic Identity Creation

It officially records the student in JKBOSE databases.

Examination Eligibility

Only registered students can appear in board examinations.

Certification Validity

Certificates and marks cards are linked to registration data.

Migration Support

Students changing schools or boards may require registration records.

Scholarship Applications

Several scholarship schemes demand valid board registration details.

Digital Transformation in JKBOSE Processes

Over the years, JKBOSE has gradually shifted towards digital governance. Online submission systems have made educational administration more efficient and transparent.

Benefits include:

  • Faster processing
  • Reduced paperwork
  • Better data management
  • Easy tracking
  • Online fee payment
  • Improved accessibility

However, digital systems also require institutions to remain technologically prepared.

Challenges Faced During Online Registration

Despite technological advancements, schools sometimes face various issues during online submission:

Server Problems

Heavy traffic near deadlines may slow down portals.

Rural Connectivity Issues

Remote regions often experience weak internet connectivity.

Data Entry Errors

Human mistakes during data entry remain common.

Lack of Technical Training

Some institutions may lack trained operators.

JKBOSE’s extension can help institutions overcome these difficulties.

Suggestions for Schools Before Final Submission

Institutions should adopt proper verification procedures before submission.

Create a Student Checklist

Maintain a checklist of all students whose registration has been completed.

Verify Documents Carefully

Cross-check names, spellings, and dates.

Keep Backup Records

Maintain both digital and printed copies of submitted data.

Submit Early

Avoid last-minute portal congestion.

What Students Should Do After Registration

After successful registration, students should:

  • Verify acknowledgement details
  • Inform parents about completion
  • Preserve fee receipts
  • Stay updated with future JKBOSE notifications
  • Prepare for academic sessions without concern

JKBOSE and Educational Administration in Jammu & Kashmir

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education plays a central role in managing school education across the region. The board conducts examinations, registration processes, affiliations, certifications, and various academic administrative functions.

Its responsibilities include:

  • Conducting Class 10 and 12 examinations
  • Registration of students
  • Issuing certificates
  • Managing affiliations
  • Implementing academic policies
  • Coordinating examination centres

The registration system forms the foundation of these educational processes.

Why This Notification Matters for Class 10 Aspirants

Students currently studying in Class 10 are preparing for one of the most important academic milestones in school education. Missing registration formalities at the Class 9 stage could create serious obstacles during board examination participation.

Thus, the re-opened registration window acts as a final opportunity for many students.

Administrative Instructions Issued by JKBOSE

The notification also mentions that all other terms and conditions from earlier notifications shall remain unchanged. Institutions are expected to follow existing board rules while submitting Registration Returns.

Additionally, copies of the notification were forwarded to several officials and departments, including:

  • Director Academics
  • Joint Secretary Examination
  • Assistant Secretary IT & SS
  • Accounts Officer
  • Information Officer
  • Heads of affiliated institutions

This ensures widespread dissemination of the notification.

Educational Importance of Proper Record Maintenance

Accurate educational record maintenance is essential not only for students but also for institutions. Registration records often serve as the primary reference during:

  • Board examinations
  • Admissions
  • Scholarships
  • Verification processes
  • Government schemes

Any mismatch can create long-term complications.

Students From Remote Areas Benefit Significantly

The reopening of the registration portal particularly benefits students from:

  • Remote villages
  • Mountainous regions
  • Border areas
  • Areas with limited connectivity

Such students often face delays due to logistical and technical limitations.

Fee Structure Explained in Detail

The total fee of Rs. 2075 consists of two components:

Original Applicable Fee: Rs. 1075

This is the standard fee applicable for registration submission.

Token Fine: Rs. 1000

This penalty amount has been imposed due to delayed submission beyond earlier deadlines.

The board has clearly stated that registration will not be accepted without payment of the complete amount.

Tips for Students to Avoid Future Registration Problems

Students should develop awareness regarding educational documentation from an early stage.

Keep Copies of Documents

Always preserve copies of registration forms and receipts.

Stay Updated With Notifications

Regularly check JKBOSE announcements.

Inform Schools About Errors

Immediately report mistakes in names or records.

Maintain Personal Academic Files

Keep all certificates and documents organized.

Future Examination Readiness

Successful registration ensures that students remain eligible for future academic activities including:

  • Class 10 Board Examination
  • Examination form submission
  • Admit card issuance
  • Result declaration
  • Certification processing

Without proper registration, these processes may get disrupted.

Final Advice for Schools and Students

As the registration window remains open only from 20 May to 30 May 2026, institutions should treat this as a priority matter. Delays may result in unnecessary stress and financial burden.

Schools must coordinate with students and parents efficiently to ensure smooth completion of the process.

Students should remain proactive and verify their records personally instead of depending entirely on institutional procedures.

The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education’s decision to reopen the registration link for Class 9 students of Academic Session 2025–26 is a major relief for students, schools, and parents across Kashmir Division and District Kargil.

The notification provides a valuable final opportunity for affiliated institutions to submit pending Registration Returns and regularize student records. With the registration portal open from 20 May to 30 May 2026, institutions should complete the process without delay.

Timely registration remains essential for ensuring smooth academic progression, examination eligibility, and future certification. Students and schools are therefore strongly advised to comply with all instructions issued by JKBOSE and complete the online submission process at the earliest.

Eid Preparations Hit Snag as Govt, Mutton Dealers Clash Over Livestock Supply Claims

Govt, mutton dealers at odds over Eid preparedness

Administration claims sufficient stock, KMDA says no consultations held, flag unresolved Punjab transport issue

Srinagar: A disagreement has emerged between government assurances and ground concerns ahead of Eid-ul-Adha, with the administration claiming sufficient stock and advance preparedness while mutton dealers allege exclusion from stakeholder consultations and unresolved livestock movement issues from Punjab.

Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs, Satish Sharma, said the government has ensured adequate availability of essential commodities and strengthened departmental coordination well ahead of the festival.

“We have sufficient stock. All department officers came to the fair price shops. We could not reach due to some other meetings,” the minister said after reviewing arrangements for Eid-ul-Adha.

Sharma, as reported by the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), said preparations for key festivals were initiated in advance to avoid last-minute shortages and disruptions.

“This is the first time we have prepared for Muharram nearly two months in advance. We have also prepared for Eid-ul-Adha,” he said, adding that preparedness has become essential due to global uncertainties.

“We have to do everything in advance due to the geopolitical situation. The world is unpredictable, but we have to be ready,” he added.

The minister assured strict action against hoarding, black marketing and irregularities in essential commodity markets. “There is sufficient stock. Some complaints have been received, but strict action will be taken. This time, we will set an example,” he said.

However, mutton dealers in Kashmir said the ground situation does not reflect official claims, alleging that stakeholders have not been taken into confidence ahead of Eid-ul-Adha.

They said no structured pre-Eid meeting has been held yet, leaving traders without clarity on supply planning, pricing coordination and livestock management strategies.

General Secretary of the Kashmir Mutton Dealers Association (KMDA), Mehraj-ud-Din, speaking to KNO, questioned the status of communications sent to Punjab authorities regarding livestock movement for months, saying there has been no update shared with stakeholders.

“What happened to the letters sent to Punjab? Has there been any response? We are not being informed about anything,” he said.

Mehraj-ud-Din said that expected pre-Eid stakeholder meetings had not taken place yet this year, and no formal consultation was held with mutton dealers.

He said issues related to livestock movement from Punjab, including delays and stoppages, remain unresolved despite repeated complaints.

“The J&K administration says it has written three times to Punjab, while we have received no response or update. As Eid-ul-Adha approaches, the government claims sufficient stock and preparedness, but questions remain over earlier concerns and demands,” he said—(KNO)

Govt Raises Gold, Silver Import Duty to 15% Amid West Asia Crisis and Soaring Import Bill

*Govt raises import duty on gold, silver to 15 pc to curb non-essential imports*

New Delhi, May 13: The government on Wednesday hiked import duties on gold and silver to 15 per cent from 6 per cent as part of measures to curb inbound shipments of precious metals amid a rising import bill due to the West Asia crisis.

Days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s clarion call for curbs on gold purchases, along with other austerity measures to save on foreign exchange, the Finance Ministry, in a notification, hiked the social welfare surcharge (SWS) and the agriculture infrastructure and development cess (AIDC), effective May 13.

The duty hikes will raise the overall customs duty on gold to 15 per cent.

India’s gold imports surged more than 24 per cent to an all-time high of USD 71.98 billion in 2025-26. In volume terms, however, the shipments dipped 4.76 per cent to 721.03 tonnes in 2025-26.

The prices of gold have risen from USD 76,617.48/KG in FY25 to USD 99,825.38/KG in FY26.

In the national capital, the price of gold increased by Rs 1,500, or nearly 1 per cent, to Rs 1,56,800 per 10 grams on Tuesday from Monday’s closing level of Rs 1,55,300 per 10 grams. Silver prices also advanced by Rs 12,000, or 4.53 per cent, to Rs 2,77,000 per kg.

In the international market, spot gold slipped USD 42.33, or 1 per cent, to USD 4,692.64 per ounce while silver fell 3.04 per cent to USD 83.49 per ounce.

The government in the 2024-25 budget had cut customs duty on gold to 6 per cent to boost the domestic gems and jewellery industry, curb illegal smuggling, and bring down local prices.

India had, in 2022, raised gold import tax to 15 per cent to check CAD (capital account deficit) amid a falling rupee due to the Russia-Ukraine war that began in February 2022.

India is the world’s second-biggest gold consumer after China. The imports are largely driven by the jewellery industry.

Chief Economic Advisor V Anantha Nageswaran, on Tuesday, said that the ongoing West Asia crisis is a “live balance of payments stress test”, with direct consequences for inflation, the current account, and the exchange rate.

BoP (balance of payment) is the difference between inflows into and outflows of foreign exchange from the country in a particular period of time.

The Indian rupee hit a record low of 95.63 against the US dollar on Tuesday.

Modi, on Sunday, called for judicious use of fuel, postponement of gold purchases and foreign travel, among other measures, to conserve foreign exchange amid the West Asia crisis.

Addressing a rally organised by the Telangana BJP in Hyderabad, he suggested reducing petrol and diesel consumption, using metro rail services in cities, carpooling, increased use of electric vehicles (EVs), utilising railway services for parcel movement, and working from home to conserve foreign exchange amid the crisis in West Asia.

India is already battling a high import bill from oil and fertiliser due to the US-Iran war, which has been ongoing for the last 10 weeks, leading to the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz. India imports 60 per cent of its LPG usage, and of that, 90 per cent flows through the now-closed Strait of Hormuz.–(PTI)
