Important Update Regarding JKBOSE Class 11th Exams – Will Board Exams Be Scrapped or Not? Education Minister Confirms

JKBOSE to Continue Conducting Class 11th Exams, Confirms Education Minister Sakina Itoo

Srinagar: The minister for education Sakina Itoo Friday said that J&K Board of School Education (BOSE) will continue to conduct the annual examination for class 11th students as in vogue for the last many years.

The statement comes amid the speculations about School Education Department (SED) switching back to conduct home exams for class 11th annual examinations.

The speculations were making rounds after the Union Secretary Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) Ministry of Education (MoE) Sanjay Kumar during his recent visit to Kashmir suggested the J&K School Education Department (SED) reconsider the board examination of class 11th students.

“No doubt, Union Secretary DSEL has put forth his suggestion to do away with JKBOSE exam for class 11th students, but JK Board will continue to conduct the exam as per the practice in vogue,” Sakina Itoo told Greater Kashmir.

The suggestion was put forth during the recent review meeting convened by the Union Secretary DSEL in Srinagar.

As already reported, a high level delegation of 40 members led by Union Secretary, DSEL Sanjay Kumar was on a visit to Kashmir earlier this week to take a detailed review of J&K SED. The team comprised Chairman CBSE and Director NCERT besides other senior officers of DSEL.

“Our JKBOSE is doing a commendable job. The exams are conducted in a foolproof manner and results are declared on time as well,” Sakina Itoo said.

The education minister said there will be no change in the mode exams for class 10th, 11th and 12th students.

“There should be no confusion among the students and other stakeholders. All the three exams (class 10th, 11th, and 12th) will continue to be conducted by JKBOSE,” she said.

In the past, the class 11th annual exam was conducted at school level. However it was observed that the students were not taking the exams seriously and would face immense problems in several competitive exams.

In wake of this, the former education minister Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari in 2018 announced that the Board examinations will be reintroduced for class 11th students.

The decision was hailed by the stakeholders considering the importance of the class 11th exams for the performance of the students in several competitive exams. (GK)

Free IAS/JKAS Coaching at BGSBU for Female Aspirants | Super 30 Initiative Under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme

In a landmark move to empower women through education and competitive examination preparation, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, in collaboration with the District Administration Rajouri, has officially launched the “Super 30” Initiative. This transformative program is designed under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) Scheme and will offer free IAS/JKAS coaching to 30 meritorious female candidates from Rajouri District.

The initiative seeks to provide high-quality coaching, study resources, and expert guidance to help talented women crack India’s most prestigious examinations – the Indian Administrative Service (IAS) and the Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS).

The Purpose of the “Super 30” Initiative

The “Super 30” initiative is inspired by the idea of nurturing women leaders of tomorrow by equipping them with the knowledge and confidence required to succeed in the country’s toughest exams. Competitive exams like IAS and JKAS are not just career milestones but also pathways to serve society and hold key administrative positions.

By focusing exclusively on female candidates, this program aligns with the broader vision of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, which emphasizes gender equality, women’s empowerment, and creating opportunities for girls to rise in education and careers.

  2. Merit-Based Selection:
    • Only the top 30 performers in the entrance test will be selected for the free coaching program.
  3. Syllabus & Date of Exam:

  • Expert Faculty: Guidance from highly experienced teachers and subject experts.
  • Study Material: Access to updated and relevant study resources for General Studies and optional subjects.
  • Motivational Support: Regular workshops, discussions, and mentorship sessions to boost confidence.
  • Focused Preparation: Tailored strategy to improve performance in Prelims, Mains, and Personality Test (Interview).

This holistic approach ensures that every selected candidate gets the best possible chance at success.

Why This Initiative Matters

The launch of the Super 30 coaching initiative is not just about preparing candidates for exams – it represents a larger social transformation.

  1. Breaking Gender Barriers:
Historically, fewer women from rural and semi-urban districts like Rajouri have had access to competitive exam coaching. This initiative levels the playing field.
  2. Empowering Women Leaders:
By enabling women to enter civil services, the program ensures that governance structures become more inclusive and representative.
  3. Economic Independence:
Successful candidates will secure well-paying, respectable government jobs, thereby contributing to the economic upliftment of their families.
  4. Role Models for Society:
The selected women will inspire younger girls from their communities to dream big and pursue higher education and careers.

Collaboration Between BGSBU & District Administration

The initiative is a product of close collaboration between Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU) and the District Administration of Rajouri. Both institutions have come together to ensure:

  • Proper infrastructure for coaching sessions.
  • Availability of faculty and mentors.
  • Smooth execution of the entrance test and selection procedure.
  • Transparency and fairness throughout the admission process.

This partnership highlights the commitment of both educational and administrative institutions towards promoting women’s education and empowerment.

A Message of Encouragement to Aspiring Candidates

The IAS and JKAS examinations are considered some of the most competitive in India, but with the right guidance and resources, success is achievable. Initiatives like Super 30 at BGSBU ensure that even students from rural backgrounds, who might otherwise lack access to coaching institutes in big cities, are not left behind.

Women who aspire to join the civil services now have a golden opportunity to receive free, high-quality coaching without worrying about financial constraints. The selected candidates will not only shape their futures but also contribute positively to their communities and the nation.

Conclusion

The launch of the Super 30 Initiative under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme at BGSBU, Rajouri, is a milestone in the journey toward women’s empowerment and education in Jammu & Kashmir. By providing free IAS/JKAS coaching to 30 meritorious female candidates, this program will nurture future leaders, administrators, and change-makers.

This initiative sends out a strong message that every girl, irrespective of her financial background, deserves the chance to dream big and achieve her goals. With the dedicated support of BGSBU and the District Administration Rajouri, the Super 30 initiative is set to change lives and inspire generations to come.

Heavy Rains, Snowfall Predicted in J&K from October 5 to 7

MeT Warns of Landslides, Disruption of Highways

Srinagar, Oct 3, KNT: The Meteorological Department has issued a severe weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir, warning of widespread rainfall and snowfall from October 5 to 7 under the influence of an active western disturbance. The department has cautioned that the spell may bring significant disruption to transport, farming activities, and pose risks of natural hazards in vulnerable areas.

According to the advisory issued by the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, moderate to heavy snowfall is expected over higher reaches including Anantnag-Pahalgam, Kulgam, Sinthan Pass, Shopian, Pir Ki Gali, Sonamarg-Zojila, Bandipora-Razdan Pass, Gulmarg and Kupwara-Sadhna Pass. Middle reaches are likely to witness light snowfall, while plains across Kashmir are expected to receive moderate to heavy rain. Jammu division is forecast to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, coupled with thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and gusty winds.

The peak of this weather system is likely to occur on the night of October 5 and continue until the morning of October 7. Winds with speeds between 40 and 50 kmph, gusting up to 60 to 70 kmph, may intensify the situation further.

The advisory highlighted probable impacts including disruption of surface transport, particularly along the Jammu-Srinagar and Srinagar-Leh National Highways, as well as other major roads passing through middle and higher reaches of the Union Territory. The likelihood of moderate to severe thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds at several locations has also been flagged.

Officials have warned of increased chances of landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones over vulnerable stretches, posing risks to commuters and transport operations. In addition, a rise in the water levels of rivers, streams, and nallahs is anticipated, raising the threat of waterlogging in low-lying areas.

Farmers have been specifically advised to suspend all agricultural operations during the period from October 5 to 7, as the weather conditions may significantly affect standing crops and field activities.

“This weather disturbance is expected to be widespread and intense. We urge the public, especially those living in vulnerable areas, to remain cautious and follow advisories from local authorities,” the advisory signed by M. H. Mir, Head of the Meteorological Centre Srinagar, stated.

The department has also urged people to stay updated with regular forecasts and avoid unnecessary travel on vulnerable roads during the period of severe weather activity. [KNT]
