Kashmir set to receive first automobile rake via Railways tomorrow

Srinagar, Oct 02: The Kashmir Valley is set to receive its first automobile rake as northern railway’s Jammu Division has dispatched a train from Maruti Suzuki India Limited’s in-plant Gati Shakti Terminal (GCT) in Manesar to Anantnag Goods Shed, officials said on Wednesday.

An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the train, carrying over 116 Maruti Suzuki vehicles departed from Manesar at 12:35 am and is scheduled to reach the newly opened Anantnag terminal tomorrow after covering 850 km in 45 hours.

He said the rake is expected to mark a new chapter in the logistics sector of automobile transport in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier in August, a cement rake from Punjab became the first bulk goods train to reach Anantnag. In September, a freight train carried Kashmiri apples from the Valley to markets outside.

New Delhi, Oct 01 (KNC): The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved an additional 3% hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) for Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners, taking the rate from 55% to 58% of Basic Pay/Pension with effect from July 1, 2025.

In a statement as per news agency Kashmir News Corner — KNC, Union Cabinet chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi today has approved to release an additional instalment of Dearness Allowance (DA) to Central Government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) to pensioners w.e.f 01.07.2025 representing an increase of 3% over the existing rate of 55% of the Basic Pay/Pension, to compensate against price rise, statement reads.

The combined impact on the exchequer on account of increase in both Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief would be Rs.10083.96 crore per annum. This will benefit about 49.19 lakh Central Government employees and 68.72 lakh pensioners, it reads.

This increase is in accordance with the accepted formula, which is based on the recommendations of the 7th Central Pay Commission, reads the statement. (KNC)

Govt notifies new timing for J&K schools

Srinagar: Director General School Education Kashmir G N Itoo Tuesday ordered change in school timing for all government and private schools from October-03.

According to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the Director General ordered that the schools falling in the Srinagar municipal limits shall function from 9am to 3Pm. However the school falling outside the Srinagar municipal limits shall function from 10am to 4pm.

“It is ordered that new School timing both in respect of government as well as recognised Private Schools in the Kashmir Division with effect from October-03,” it reads.

In the meantime, DSEJ in an order said, “In supersession of all previous orders issued on the subject, it is ordered that all Government and Private (recognized) Schools in summer zone of Jammu division shall observe school timing from 9.00 AM to 3.00 PM for the month of October 2025.”

DSEJ further said that in case of school timing in November, school timing will be 9.30 AM to 3.30 PM except for Schools falling within the limits of Jammu Municipal Corporation and surrounding urban agglomeration where the time shall be 9.00 AM to 3.00 PM with effect from November-01.

“The Winter Zone of Jammu Division shall observe school timing w.e.f 01-10-2025 as 9.30 AM to 3.30 PM,” it reads.

The directorate further said that any deviation to this order shall invite action against the institution, under rules in vogue—(KNO)

Srinagar: Union Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Sanjay Kumar, on Tuesday reviewed the education scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and called for doing away with the Class 11 board examination to ensure better quality and holistic education across government schools.

As per details available with news agency JKNS, Union Secretary, Department of School Education and Literacy (DoSEL), Sanjay Kumar, along with a team of senior officers, today conducted a detailed review of the School Education Department in Jammu and Kashmir.

Union Secretary who chaired a high level meeting at SKICC Srinagar, stressed the need to improve quality of education throughout government schools in Jammu and Kashmir.

He encouraged for carrying out sustainable infrastructure up gradation to facilitate at all government schools for education.

At the outset, Sanjay Kumar called for a massive increase in student enrolment in government schools and directed the department to ensure quality education through vocational and skill-based learning across all institutions.

The meeting was attended by Secretary School Education J&K Ram Niwas Sharma, Director General School Education Kashmir GN Itoo, Director School Education Jammu Dr. Naseem Choudhary, senior officers from various wings of the Education Department including Samagra Shiksha, JKBOSE, SCERT, and Directorates of School Education Kashmir and Jammu were present in the meeting.

During the review, Union Secretary issued directions to further strengthen the standards of school education in J&K and laid special stress on addressing infrastructural gaps, efficient human resource management, and mainstreaming out-of-school children.

Sanjay Kumar also underscored the importance of coordinated efforts by all stakeholders to ensure quality education and holistic development of children in Jammu and Kashmir.

During the review, Union Secretary highlighted the issue of student dropouts and directed officials to ensure that no student leaves school before completing Class 12.

He also emphasised the robust functioning of pre-primary schools and called for large-scale enrolment of children in kindergarten classes.
Importantly, Sanjay Kumar instructed the department to reconsider the board examination of Class 11 and asked JK BOSE doing away with it.

The Secretary expressed concern over the comparatively low enrolment in government schools as against private institutions and directed officers to take measures to make government schools the prime centres of learning and career development.
At the outset, deliberations were held on the proposal for establishing a Regional Office of CBSE in J&KK.

Among other agendas, adoption of curriculum as per NEP-2020 across all classes, Capacity building of teachers on NCF, CBSE curriculum, assessments, and conduct of board examinations, School education indicators of J&K, presented by DoSEL were also discussed.

At the outset, detailed review on implementation and progress under Samagra Shiksha & PM SHRI and other schemes was also held.

He also reviews progress under PARAKH and High-Powered Committee (HPC), Digital interventions including DIKSHA, VSK, and PM e-VIDYA channel usage.
Union Secretary reviews functioning of DIET/ITEP institutions in J&K and stressed on capacity building of teachers under various training courses.

  • Mr. Qazi Qamar Iqbal, however, did not respond to the said notice.

Despite the submissions, the Commission found upon further examination that both Ms. Kapoor and Ms. Gupta did not possess the requisite relevant teaching/research experience required for the post of Associate Professor.

As a result, the candidature of all three candidates stood rejected.
